Visit to Killington 10/17

Hi! I am planning a trip to Killington this weekend for my 1st anniversary. We are coming from New York City. I was wondering if anyone can suggest the best route (through upstate NY or CT). I would also appreciate any tips on what to do while there, such as festivals, best places to visit, etc. We have never been to Killington before and are completely clueless. Thanks!

The link below is a route provided for me by pwt58
last week. I went from Central NJ to Killington last weekend 12th,13th. The route was gorgeous at some stretches...and I hope it would be peak this weekend. Try it.

Thanks for the suggestion! Hopefully I won't get lost (I get lost easily!). Can anyone recommend waterfalls near the area? I would love to see some. I was also wondering about any "Must See" things in the surrounding areas. Also, are there any events in the Killington area this weekend? Thanks for your help!

One more question... where should I go to get good maple syrup and cheese? Gotta bring gifts back!

For Cheeses and Maple Syrup try the following:
Sugarbush Farm between Quechee and Woodstock
Crowley Cheese in Headville, on the road between Rutland and Ludlow. (I love their smoked cheddar!)
Taftsville Country Store in Taftsville, between Quechee and Woodstock.

They all do mail order. There are others, of course, but these are all Scenes of VT advertisers and we'd be grateful if you would:
a) Tell them you heard about them here.
b) Buy some cheese or syrup from one of them.
The historic Taftsville store carries a wide selection of Vermont syrups and cheeses. Store owner, Charlie Wilson, only carries Vermont products and is a character you would enjoy meeting.

If you go back to page 2 of these foliage forums, you'll see a post name "foliage and waterfalls". There is a link to waterfalls in Vt. Look for Clarenden and Jamaica. Moss Glen Falls in Granville and Texas Falls in Hancock are easy to get to, but the foliage will be about gone by then.

I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their advice last week! Even though many of the trees had lost their leaves, the scenery was breath taking! I took the route suggested by PWT 54 and was amazed at the colors I saw. Thanks everyone!! I am definitely returning next year!
