Anyone know what the conditions are like on this road? Thinking about doing it Monday am. Thanks! --c

How long will it last? I might try next weekend. I still can't believe how good the colors are up here at this late date.

That area started to peak two weeks ago after a hard freeze. (I was there on 10/3, drove it after hiking from Mad Tom Notch to Bromley Peak. Brilliant, late afternoon sunlight really lit up the foliage.)That road goes through quite a few microclimates, so there will be some color, but most likely patchy. The 3000' peaks and high ridges of the Peru and Big Branch Wildernesses should be well past peak, but the lower sections along the road may still be nice.

Foliage around 800 - 1000' elevations is just starting to peak in Bennington County now. The oaks are bright red, but still have all leaves. Some maples are starting to loose leaves.
Still a lot of green mixed in with the reds and yellows.

Any particular favorite drives or photo spots in your area, dfpvt? Looking for interesting places for tomorrow. Thanks for any ideas. --c

IXL - the Lake Shaftsbury Park area should be excellent tomorrow. The colors are peaking.
Old Depot Rd. off 7a, just south of 313 should be nice, as well as the park itself. There are also a bunch of gravel roads off of Old Depot that are worth exploring. Maple Hill Rd. is a good bet although I haven't been on it recently. These roads eventually wind down into Bennington via either East Rd. or 7a.

You know I think I actually ended up on those roads by accident last year and they were great. Will check them out.... thanks! --c
