Route 100 from Stowe south to Hancock is turning fast. I would try the Stowe or Waitsfield area for lodging. I'd do route 100 north from either town to route 58 east in Lowell,Vt. Take route 58 east to route 14 south in Irasburg. Take route 14 south to route 15 east and turn left. Go to Hardwick village and turn right at the flashing light to continue route 14 south. When you get to East Montpelier go straight for route US 2 west for Montpelier. Go straigh to I-89 and take that back to either Stowe or Waitsfield. Colors are very good on those routes.
