Just finished a drive from southern to northern Vermont. Here are some impressions. Entered the state on 279. (Bennington bypass). Route 7 from Bennington to Manchester was very good, with peak appearing to be about a week away. Route 11 all the way from Manchester to Chester was a yawn, with an occasional swamp maple looking good. Route 10 to 106 was good, with moderate color. 131 to 91 was very good with ascutney stealing the show. I-91 to white river was just OK. 89 to Montpelier was better, the higher you go, some early leaf drop on some maples at higher elevations. Some isolated swamp maples are prime in Burlington.

Where to go to see the peak colors coming weekend. Can you please specify some towns. Based on your current report we will definitely try Bennington. Can you please suggest some mountain views, lakes, scenic drives, waterfalls, scenic overlooks etc. for the weekend of 10/12 in VT. We are planning to go to Stratton mountain for a gondola ride. Will that be still at peak color or past peak? TIA

Mt. Tabor is always a favorite of mine, it is along Rt. 7. I may try that myself this weekend.
