Peak Color!

Vermont's northeast kingdom is peaking this weekend. This is where you should head if you are looking for color. Everywhere you go in this region, you will see it, especially around higher elevations. Even outside the area, the colors are coming on strong. Stowe is looking pretty good as well as Montpelier. Expect southern Vermont to be very close to peak by next weekend. The color progression remains still slightly ahead of its normal schedule. By the time we get to October 15th, it will probably be all over.

Peak color today around Mt Snow, Searsburg Reservoir, Stratton and Magic . The foliage is about a week early. I've never seen peak foliage in late September before in Southern Vermont.

I concur! A week early at least! It is coming on fast and I'm wondering if this will be a short season? I'm hoping not, because after this trip we were planning to go to SoVT on the third weekend in October but I may end up staying in the NW hills of CT and the Berkshires..... Could be sticks up here sooner than later for this particular season. We'll have to wait and see!

I'm planning on doing my annual trip to Killington on 10/4. With how early peak foliage is this year, it might be my last foliage trip into Vermont this year. Route 30 from the junction with route 121 was mostly green into Brattleboro, so late October may be okay. What a great day today was though, Cobalt blue skies and beautiful Fall foliage color.

I'm heading up to Killington on 10/5 as it is forecast to be a rainy day tomorrow. Looks like peak foliage around that region right now. Any side road / back road recommendations for the Killington area?

We are planning to go VT the third weekend. I know it's kind of late but that's only available weekend we have. Are there any chances of finding any peak color anywhere in the region? Or will it be past peak by then all over? Any suggestions as to where to find fall colors so late in the season?

Kent Pond and Colton Pond are popular spots along Rt 100, north of Rt 4 and not far from Rt 4. Not far from there is Chittenden Reservoir and Leffert's Pond. Oh, also Thundering Brook Rd. There is a stream that runs along there, lots of spots with small waterfalls, then at the end of the road (farthest from Rt 4) there is a short trail that leads to a large waterfall.

Krishna, maybe southeastern VT or in the Upper Valley, around Hartford. Though I think Burlington tends to turn later, so that might be a good spot to try.
