What kind of place are you looking for?
If you are OK with a resort, Stratton still has some availability, if that would work for you, geographically? Rooms start at $135. Warning: the Columbus Day Brewfest will be going on at that time so,might be a bit of a party crowd there.

And my apologies as I misread your dates. I will be home by the time you reach the Nirvana that is Southern Vermont so, as with the others, I shall have to wait for a future trip to meet you.

OK, here is a link to the most recent issue of Stratton: http://www.strattonmagazine.com/digital/current-issue/
I had to link to it because it has articles on hikes in Southern Vermont (from hardish [Bromley] to easy [West River] and in between), Skyline Drive and the history of the mountain on which it rests, a great article on old roads and rural wanderings, the return of the bald eagle to Vermont, obligatory foliage porn and an article that features Amy Chamberlain of Manchester's Perfect Wife Restaurant.
Enjoy!

Hi Dean! Thanks for all your info! Here's my input on a few of these events:
Sept. 19-20: Chester Fall Craft Fair: Fantastic! Chester is a sweet town and our own forum member bvahjen has a home there. I go to this Chester Fair almost every year and it is great. I'm going this weekend! Lots of deeeeelicious food booths, wonderful crafts from local folks and very affordable. The town has nice restaurants and I love the bookstore.
Sept. 26: Peru Fair: An equally great festival. I've never seen so many craft booths at a fair before and they turn the town into a "real street fair". Lots of entertainment, tons of food booths and crafts galore. A must go see! The only downside is that unless you get there early and park on the street, you must take a shuttle from the ski resort nearby. It is fast, but takes time away from the fair. Just shows you how popular this fair is!
Sept. 26 - Oct. 12: Stratton Gondola Rides: The Blue Bird Express is the way to go! The views on top of Stratton of Somerset Reservoir are incredible! Lots of open long views at the top and nice hiking trails, especially the one to the fire tower which I have posted previously.
Oct. 2-3: Weston Antiques Show: not been to this one.
Oct. 2-4: Manchester Fall Art and Craft Festival: I've been to this twice and it is expensive, but the juried crafts are one of a kind and top notch. They had a great cheese and wine booth when I went both times.
Oct. 9-11: Annual Weston Craft Show: I went to this once and it is expensive as well. Small and quaint craft fair and I think there is an admission charge. The town is so worth visiting but expect CROWDS! Rough parking!
Oct. 10-11: Annual Newfane Heritage Festival: Haven't been to this but it is one of the top recommended craft fairs in the state with ALOT of craft booths. I keep missing it! I'll try again over Columbus Day Weekend!
Oct. 1 1-4 pm: A free Fall Foliage Walk to the newly expanded Viewpoint at Merck Forest and Farmland Center (registration requested). Now this is one place I would love to go see. Has anyone been to the Merck Forest?
