Jack: I cheat. :D These coordinates are not intended to be "tripod holes but generally to get you close; e.g., a parking area or an intersection. I use a DeLorme mapping program on my computer, unless I have had the presence of mind to store them on the car GPS.

I did have a unit that fit on the camera hot shoe, but it sucked the juice from the battery at an alarming rate and sometimes messed with my camera electronics. In the end it was just one more piece of gear to worry about and more trouble than it was worth

How do you track your GPS coordinates. I would like to be able to log GPS coordinates for my photos and tag my RAW files.

Jack,

If I may intrude?

I carry a DeLorme PN-60 with me. I turn on tracking and I can cross reference where I was on my track at any given time wih the time on my photo and know exactly where I was. It is also a great way to review the overall hike and use the track for planning for the next time out.

I don't know if this will get you the tag on your RAW files that you want ( Ibet there is software out there that will take the two pieces of data and put them together) but it will let you log them.

I sometimes wonder if Nikon and Canon listen to the needs of their customers. I would gladly trade all the "scene awareness" goofiness, the "program mode," the fine and super fine jpeg, the in camera "vivid" adjustments, and video, for built-in GPS, and of course, a significant reduction in price :-)

A reminder that this book is available on Amazon as a Kindle Book, on Barnes & Noble for your Nook and in the Apple Store. Please give it a look as you make your 2013 Fall Foliage Plans. Let me know here if you have any questions or suggestions. Best to all for a great Fall 2013!

Some (hopefully) good news on this: I will be working on an updated version of this book during 2016. Not sure we can have it ready by the 2016 foliage season, but will be working on it.

I have persuaded Carol Smith, one of our regular, talented photographers here with "boots on the ground" ability as well, to co-write this second addition with me. More to follow......................

Congratulations to both of you on getting this finished! I know you've been working on the updated version for a long time.

Andy, when things calm down in a couple of months, remind me that there's something I want to discuss with you regarding the marketing/distribution of ebooks that might be of interest, both for the UP and Vermont books.

Could one of you Apple folks out there do me a huge favor? I don't seem to be able to get to the iBookstore and I need the hotlink to the book there. A comment on FB this morning leads me to believe it is available there.

Could somebody confirm that and give me the link? You can reply here, PM me, or email me direct at adr1957@gmail.com

Thanks :D

Just something I noticed this morning under your description of Robinson Hill Road. The years, 2017 is underway and 2016 was spectacular! :D

Yeah. Apparently my "counter" was off that day :-). I think the year I was there was actually 2015. So subtract one year from each of those, and it gets back on track :-)

Great resource. I found it easy to read and enjoyed the picture references as well!
