From Killington : Shall I go North or go south on Route 100

Hi All,

I am visiting Killington area on Saturday October 4, 2008.

I will be coming from New Jersey and staying at Killington on saturday. I am planning to visit Equinox Mountain enroute. Any report on equionx ?

I am not able to decide whether to go north on route 100 to stowe or go south to wilmington on Sunday October 5.

My friend says we should go south as we will reach New Jersey earlier.
But my priority is the best Fall foliage. If that means some extra driving I am for it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am sure I will get some expert opinion .

Thanks,
rK.

The foliage around the Equinox area may not be up to your priority needs. Because route 100 turns earlier because of it's elevation and geography I'd take route 9 to route 100 north and drive route 100 up to Killington. I have some mixed fellings about this because I like doing Equinox. However if foliage is your priority this may be the best route. The next day you can do route 100 to Stowe. foliage should be very good up there. The colors are very good this year.

Hi bm, pwt54,

After reading your suggestions, I feel I should do the following drive.

Your further suggestions are highly appreciated.

Saturday October 04.

1. Route 9 from Bennington to Wilmington.
2. Wilimngotn to Killington on Route 100

Stay at Killington

Sunday October 05

3. Killlington to Stowe on Route 100
4. Either Smugglers Notch or Mt Mansfield (If time and traffic permits)
5. Return to NJ on I-89 and I-91

Thanks once again for your help.

Regards,
Rahul.

Right now that like the best route. Don't surprised to a little snow on the mountain tops.

Had a great trip last weekend . Thanks BM, PWT for your help.

Here is what I did

1. NJ to Mount Equinox, VT by Route 7A
2. Route 11/30 from Mt Equinox to Londonderry.
3. Route 100 from Londonderry to Ludlow.
3. Took the Auto road to top of Okemo Mounatin in Ludlow. there is a Fire Tower on top of Okemo with great views.
3. Route 100 from Ludlow to Killington

Stay at Killington

4. Route 100 from Killington to Stowe.
5. Mount Mansfield Auto Road
6. Smugglers Notch
7. Vt Route 15 , 7 to Charlotte
8. Charlotte - Essex Ferry - Crossing lake champlain to NY.
9 Continue on I-87 towards NJ

One suggestion.

Start your 2nd day from Stowe very early so that you can take the ferry to NY a little early and can enjoy the colors of Adirondacks as well on I-87.
