I echo what the others have said...thanks for doing this. It's invaluable to those of us who live long and far away...like Texas.
My heart breaks for Rochester. My wife and I spent some time there last October. I pray for their recovery.

Re: Off Topic - The Texas Drought in Pictures
Thanks, guys. Just today, the NWS is talking about major cold air barreling down the Plains and making it to TX next week. And there should be moisture available...meaning....RAIN! Too early and too risky to forecast it yet, though.

Off Topic - The Texas Drought in Pictures
Vermont has had too much rain. We here in TX have had none. Zero. Check out these photos.

Re: Tropical Storm/Hurricane Katia
I'm not talented enough to compete in the pun game...I'm just thrilled that Katia is indeed turning out to sea!

Tropical Storm/Hurricane Katia
There is a good chance that a week from now, Katia (KAH-tee-uh) will be approaching the Caribbean. Normally, this would be bad news for the eastern seaboard, which certainly doesn't need any more rain. But there is hope. There is a good chance that concurrent with Katia's approach, there will be Tro...

Re: Irene - big damage expected
I just made a donation to the Vermont Red Cross...it's the least I could do. Tony: I'm worried about T.D. 12 possibly following fast on Irene's heels. It looks like upper air patterns may support it coming in to the east coast. Obviously, Vermont can't take any more water for a long time. What are y...

Re: Irene - big damage expected
I did go you youtube to see the heart-rending videos. My stomach has a knot in it...but if there is something I know, it's that the people there are strong, independent, and charitable to their neighbors...and this state will recover!

Re: IRENE: A TRUE WAKE UP CALL FOR ME IN CT
This breaks my heart. I've been so worried about the foliage and whether my trip this October would still be a good one...may the Lord forgive me for being so selfish-minded. May He give peace and comfort to those displaced and hurting. I will definitely be contributing to the charities there.

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Man, I forgot about Mt. Washington...bet they stay indoors tomorrow. Is it safe to say that thus far, Irene hasn't been stronger than forecast and indeed, may be a tad weaker? (I'm looking for any encouragement I can). If NYC and Philly come out of this relatively unscathed, that doesn't bode well f...

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Tony: What is your best guess on max winds, say, in 3 sectors: southern Vermont, central Vermont, Northeast Kingdom.
Also, given the already wet conditions, what do you think the max wind is that can be tolerated by the state without significant damage to the trees?

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Tony: Again, thanks for what you mean to this forum. BTW, yesterday I heard an "expert" on a national radio show say that he thought the storm was being overblown (bad pun) and that when all was said and done, damage would be under $1 billion. I don't think he'll be called again. This is going to be...

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Tony: Thanks so much...you info is so appreciated. On a side note, any idea when the Texas high finally moves west and gives us a break? I've seen where others say that around Labor Day, this could happen. I believe Joe said that he sees the first shot of cold air coming down the Rockies around 9-5....

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Folks, I just don't think NYC is ready for what's coming...got a bad feeling about this. But I have my fingers crossed that somehow, Vermont survives...the trees survive, the leaves survive.

Re: Irene - big damage expected
Tony: I've seen computer models suggesting that Invest 90L will be a fish and curl northward rather quickly. Do you still think it has GOM potential?
