Re: October 1st Update
The highlands in much of the NEK are starting to peak. Here are some photos from Sunday afternoon between West Danville and Cabot Plains: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1978/45009751172_3f8315ee17_c.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1932/45057761781_96cccc7f57_c.jpg https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1...

Re: Just Arrived in Bennington. Where should we head for Foilage thru Thurs?
Unfortunately, the color is really going to need about week to really come out in most places. It is getting a little better every day here in the NEK, but I don't think it will be peak in most places this weekend.

Re: Northeast Kingdom Destinations
The foliage is running a little bit behind right now but not too far. The incoming cool weather should really kick it into gear this coming week. Higher elevations right now are where most of the color is. Unfortunately, in the immediate St Johnsbury/Lyndon valley areas I have seen some of this agai...

Re: Upstate NY to Franconia NH with stop in vt
One more thing Pats Fan.......as far as directions from East Burke to Franconia.....I highly suggest you take the following drive. When possible, I always recommend avoiding the highways, as I personally would rather follow the side roads and take in the scenery and be able to stop and pull over fo...

Re: CT to Quebec with a stop in VT- Best foliage route?
It looks like you are heading to Quebec City. I'm assuming you are driving I-91 to Canada. That goes through Northeast VT which should have great foliage at that time. But lodging is scarce up there, and with foliage season in full mode, it could be hard to find a room. St. Johnsbury and Newport ar...

Great photos in 500px Bid! I just followed you on there.
I've been having a lot of luck with Peacham for the first weekend of October as well. It is a great morning and late afternoon spot. Lots of barns and rolling hills covered in maples.

Re: Can we get some Vermont photography going again?
Here in northern Vermont, we have finally broken out of the deep freeze. Daytime highs that don't get above 0 degrees makes getting motivated to get out and take photos difficult. :D Here are a few from the last couple of months - https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4756/25745593008_c63a5826d9_c.jpg Fost...

Re: Off Topic- Storm
A lot of downed trees here in the NEK, mostly softwoods and poplar from what I've seen. I was lucky that the power was out in my neighborhood for less than 12 hrs. Some areas were out for 5-6 days.

That first shot is great! Definitely magazine worthy. So much Vermont rolled up in one photo.

Re: Rt. 232 & Owls Head
It may have something to do with the parks going into off-season mode after Columbus Day weekend. Typically, the foliage is long gone in Groton by now.
That said, someone should really be opening that gate. Owl's Head is one of the most heavily promoted foliage viewing spots in the state.

That is from Nichols Pond from Nichols Ledge. A place I have yet to visit. It involves a bit of a hike to access that view.

The Past 4 Days
I was camping in Groton this past weekend and experienced good color there. Not the best I've seen but it wasn't bad. It was cloudy most of the weekend but since I was staying there I was flexible and able to get some good shots. Kettle Pond: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4492/23768904898_db5485e1b...

Some just call it unusual weather.
Most science leans toward this type of weather becoming more common.

Re: Mother Nature Has Turned On the Switch to Color Mode! Go here!
I'm going to have to let Denzel handle this one... https://media.giphy.com/media/14ceV8wMLIGO6Q/giphy.gif Color is exploding all over. True it isn't ridiculously good like last year but, IMHO, it has tipped the scale toward average here in the Lyndonville area. Everything that was still green is tur...
