Hi ramesh, Both the first and second week are likely to be good but in different parts of the state. The color typically starts in the high elevations and the northeast in very late September and moves to the low elevations and south through the second week of October. If you go late September throu...

Hi From_the_NEK, I actually did make it to that spot last year and will go back again this year. In fact I think I went there based on your advice, which was very helpful to me last year. It was cloudy when I went, but I thought it could also make a nice late afternoon spot for photos if the sun is ...

I too am surprised that Art Wolfe throws the diffraction issue out the window and shoots at f22. Surely he knows about diffraction. That said, it hasn't seemed to me to be too important. Typically I shoot landscapes at f11, since it seems to be a good compromise between most lens' sweet spot (usuall...

Post Depression Vermont color photos
I came across this link and found it very interesting. Many of these photos are from New England, and a few from Vermont. " These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on A...

I shoot raw. I like having the maximum flexibility while editing, often to admittedly fix mistakes I've made such exposure and especially white balance. And once you get into a certain workflow (Lightroom for me) it's no more work than shooting jpg. If you only make minor tweaks to your photos, shoo...

10/2 driving up to NEK (Lyndonville area) 10/3 NEK (Lyndonville area) 10/4 NEK (Lyndonville area) 10/5 NEK (Lyndonville area) or possibly Stowe or Machester area if I find a good place to stay 10/6 driving home I'd be happy to meet for a sunrise shoot. Peacham or Owl's Head are nice spots within "co...

Points taken Andy. I have not read his Maine book, but I did find his Oregon Coast book to be fantastic. I did notice he tended to be "biased" towards southern VT, which is to be expected since he lives there and knows that best. I did quibble with some of his "favorites" rankings in the back of the...

These may be of interest. It has been hot in Vermont. However, they've had enough rain at least over the full 6 months of the year. However, I think that's decieving as NJ is also listed as having plenty of rain. We had plenty of rain through May. But the dry and hot spell in June/July has taken it'...

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Andy, You're right, I will have to look into those insurance options. That, and remind myself to make sure my camera bag is not 90%, but 100% zipped. The thing that kills me is the first time I drop a lens out of my bag, it has to be on a bridge above a waterfall....

Pacific Northwest photos
Hi all, I took a family trip to the Pacific Northwest for the first two weeks of June. This was our first time out there. We flew into San Francisco and drove up to Seattle, seeing the Sonoma wine country, the redwoods, the Oregon coast, Portland, and Olympic National Park on the way. It was a great...

Wow, Carol, you did a great job. I can see a difference between your photos now and even a year ago. You are improving. :D My favorites are #9, #27, #35, #69. I like the shallow depth of field on #27. Unconventional for a landscape photo but I think it was the right choice to bring attention to the ...
