Re: South/Central Massachusetts - Quabbin Reservoir

Hi Kevin, thanks for these photos. I don't know anything about the Oxbow so had to google the location. Why have I never heard of this? Can you tell me alittle more about your experience there and the best time to see it? Summer ok too. I traveled ALL around the Quabbin with Ed McGuirk from this for...

Re: North Western Connecticut At Peak! Frost and Recent Rains! The state is rockin' it this week! Go to these towns no

Thanks for all the pics Kevin. It is really appreciated! Just finished an 8 hour tour of the NW and Western sections of CT with Calguy from NH from this forum. I am so tired I will write a report up tomorrow. After the rains next week, the area will be approaching past peak and sticks. I'm glad we t...

Re: Barkhamsted Reservoir - N. Connecticut 10-22-20

Kevin, I was just there this morning early and we (NH Calguy from this forum who drove down here at 6 a.m.) found great reflections on the still waters on 219 South of the construction about 2 miles. There are two pullouts on the west side of the road with a small landing bridge to stand on. I actua...

Kevin, you are exactly correct in your observations. wtnh website had a photo of the gradients of drought in CT. NE CT had 1/2 the pockets in red zone for extreme drought while the bars of drought got considerably lighter as you headed west. NW CT got all the rains this summer and early fall as well...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Kevin, I think you should be fine. That's around when I am going to Essex. If there are rounds of rain and wind in the next 2 weeks, I won't head to the CT shoreline. It's really a wait and see. CT

If anyone is interested in hikes with 360 views in our peak areas, I would recommend Haystack Mountain in Norfolk on route 272 - the views from the stone tower of the Canaan Valley below is outstanding as well as views into 3 states (on a clear day). You can go to Campbell Falls just up the road a p...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Kevin, Thursday is supposed to be 75 and blue skies. No rain or wind to blow off the precious leaves so fill up that gas tank! Hope you can get back out to the western areas and you'll be surprised how far along Barkhamsted is. Is Ashford, Tolland and the areas around UCONN that bland this ye...

Colorado Mom, why did I think you had a daughter in NH? Maybe I have you mixed up with someone else on the forum, but I swear one of your kids moved there! Maybe I was dreamin' a little dream for you! Next year you WILL be in VT!!!!

ANOTHER amazing foliage drive today in the Farmington Valley with crazy peak colors in the following towns, you can't go wrong no matter what road! Simsbury, Canton, Avon, North Canton! Connecticut is experiencing the best color that I can remember in several years! Here are the roads I took: 185 ou...

Hi Colorado! So nice to see you here on the forum, I hope you and your family and your daughter's family in NH are well! Belgique chocolates closed a few years ago but Kent Coffee and Chocolates is what is in town now. I did go once to Belgique so I know what you are referring to! Any time you come ...

North Western Connecticut At Peak! Frost and Recent Rains! The state is rockin' it this week! Go to these towns now!

Sunday, 10.18 Hello foliage friends, looking for some great color? Head to the NW corner of CT and along the west side adjacent to the NY border! Color is on fire and we are approaching or at peak in the following towns. I knew when I woke up this frosty morning, that today was the day to return to ...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Kevin, thanks for the report. I guess I will skip the NE corner for now. I had my hopes set on touring the back roads near UCONN. The rains are really popping out the colors today but we need this rainfall to make a dent in our drought. I am combining a hiking trip Sunday in the western part of the ...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Kevin/anyone in the area, I forgot to mention that if you are out in the Avon/Simsbury area, take NOD Road from west to east in the afternoon, so that you end up on 44. Talcott Mountain is almost peak and gorgeous and it is an afternoon shot, sometime after 1:00 p.m. The Hublein Tower stands at the ...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Loafer, I love Riga Road. But I think it is really sketchy in a lot of places. I prefer to go on it with a truck. We were there a couple of months ago and there are 4 trailheads we took note of. Bald Mountain and another on the left, and the AT and the two trailheads to Bear Mountain. It is a lovely...

Re: Connecticut Fall Foliage 2020

Oh my gosh! Connecticut is exploding in color! The recent rains and stellar sunshine popped out the colors even more today! Loafer, I did some of the roads you mentioned. The only caveat was that Barkhamsted Reservoir is still early but the colors are emerging, it won't be ready until this weekend. ...
