Re: North East Vermont - Scenic View Suggestions.

The Kancamagus Highway is a must see, crowded or not. The road number is route 112. The Kancamagus itself is from Woodstock, NH to Conway. Route 112 from Woodstock to Bath, NH is the Lost River Road. Do both sections ! The last part of the Kancamagus, near Conway isn't that great. Look for the Bear ...

Re: PWT's first report

I like the late foliage also. I like driving a quiet country road that is surrounded by big yellow trees. When the sun shines through them, there is a warm yellow glow. The roads are covered with leaves. When the wind blows there is a flurry of leaves. The stress of life is gone. The stress of the R...

Re: Chandler Pond Farm

I got an email from CT about 10 seconds after she saw your post. She wants to go there yesterday, but we decided to go Monday. The email came before I had my 3rd cup of coffee, so I had trouble remembering where the farm was. Now I know.

Re: HAPPY AUTUMN 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I drive down through that areathe last week of October to get to my Winter Quarters in St. Augustine, FL. I find that the colors are fading about that time. I think the 3rd week of October may be better.

Re: PWT's first report

You will still have late foliage up there. More yellows than red and orange. If you can't change your lodging work on the views, scenery. There are covered bridges in Lyndonville. You mentioned the Stannard Mountain Road. It starts as the Wheelock Road off route US 5 in Lyndonville. It's a nice ride...

Re: My Travel Plan

The parking areas for Bingham Falls is just past the Inn at the Mountain Lodge on route 108. For Stowe's Moss Glen Falls, take route 100 north from Stowe Village. At about 2 miles you will come to a long straight section with a lone farm on the left. At the end of the straight section route 100 curv...

Re: HAPPY AUTUMN 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've done the Blue Ridge a couple of times in the fall. It's great. I see that you are driving from Tenn. to Asheville. If you are going through the Smoky Mountain Park, stop at a welcome center and ask about Cade's Cove. I did it a few years ago and I loved it ! It was an old farming community that...

Re: PWT's first report

Lyndonville will be fading at that time, but Woodstock will be good as will Wolfsboro. First lets do Woodstock. Instead of driving route US 4 to Quechee, take the River Road off route 12, just past the Billings Farm Museum. Drive that road to and through the Taftsville Covered Bridge and onto route ...

Re: My Travel Plan

The road to the Lewis Pond Overlook is rough. If you have just a car you may have trouble with ground clearance. If you have an SUV/ Crossover vehicle with good ground clearance you can make. Route 58 between route 14 in Irasburg and route 100 goes over a ridge. At the top of the ridge you have a gr...

Re: Ludlow Oct.7

It would take a small book to list all of the great rides down there. Two of my favorite roads are just west of Ludlow. They are routes 133 and 140. I rate these road as quaint. They are paved country roads. Take route 103 west from Ludlow until you see route 140 to Wallingford on the left. Drive ro...

Re: PWT's first report

Finding lodging on a day to day will be tricky and will take up valuable leaf-peeping time. The Burlington area may be a problem. The colleges may be having Homecoming days around that time. If not, then Burlington will have rooms. Get one for your whole vacation. You might think about a condo at a ...
