Re: Advice/help needed in finalizing itinerary: Oct 3 - Oct
The foliage up here above Stowe is near peak to peak. It will be a close call for peak foliage up here next weekend. There will still be a ton of color, but the red and orange leaves will be fading. I would stick to your first 2 day schedule. The Kancamaugus Highway will still have good color in the...

Re: Need help on foliage drive planing
If you want a base to travel from, it should be the Killington/Rutland area. Rooms may be cheaper in Rutland. This will put you a short drive from the best colors and drives. I really recommend doing route 100 early in your tour. I see you have 2 open days. You should do the Peacham area on one of t...

Re: The Weather & Foliage Gods & Mother Nature In Sync for 2
It will be strange not driving CT around the back roads this year. I suppose I could drive my mother and brother around, but they aren't as lively.

Route 15 from Jeffersonville to Hyde Park was fogged in the night of the frost last week, so the colors are not as advanced as route 15 east from Hyde Park to Walden. Colors in that area were near peak.

Re: Need help on foliage drive planing
If you are staying in Brattleboro the first night, then I would drive route 9 west to route 100 north in Wilmington village. Then drive route 100 north to the Stowe area. Route 100 changes color earlier because it's in the mountains. You should do it as soon as possible. Find a place a palce to stay...

Foliage Report
Today my mother, brother and I went on a foliage ride. We took route 15 east to route US 2 in West Danville. We drove route US 2 east to I-91 and took that route north to Lyndonville. We had lunch at the Miss Lyndonville Diner. We then drove route 114 north to the Newark Road in Brighton/Island Pond...

Summer is offically over. Sears is advertising snowblowers, my mother gave permisson to turn on the furnace, and the governor candidates are debating at the Tunbridge World's Fair today. Which is why I'm going tomorrow.

The Waterbury Mess
OMG !!! The State of VT is putting a "roundabout / traffic circle" at the junction of routes US 2 and 100 west of Waterbury Village. Right now they are working at the intersection just south of the Interstate 89 exit. It's a mess. If you are traveling route 100 on a Sunday you should be okay...

I've been on the toll road a hundred times. It's easy driving. The views from the top of Mt Mansfield are great. A word of warning; there are rare and protected tundra plants up there, so stay on the paths and bare rocks.

Stick season in northern VT
Well, we knew it was coming. The peak leaves were hanging by a thread. The moderate winds and rain were all it took to knock them down. The local weatherman reported heavy rain and winds for later this afternoon. It's really looking like southern VT in the lower elevations will be the place for good...

If we get that big wind on Monday, I would skip Stowe and stay south of route US 4. The leaves up here are hanging on by a thread. The second half of your tour sounds good.

Re: Noyes and Belvidere pond, Hazen's notch...all great on O
Belvidere Pond is "Officially" called Long Pond. Nobody else calls it Long Pond. I asked one of them about it and he said the the pond was in Eden and not Belvidere. I said the Belvidere Mountain was in Lowell, so why didn't they call it Long Mountain. I got a glazed look from him.

Routes 133 and 140
With a storm coming Monday, the foliage north of route US 4 may take a big hit. That means you will have to go to Southeast VT, between Springfield and Vernon,VT. Or Southwest VT between Rutland and Pownal VT. The Champlain Valley between Rutland and Burlington may still have good color. For you fol...

Re: Weather & leaf peeping Killington Oct 9-12???
We may be hit with high winds on Monday. If so, the leaves will blown off north of route US 4. I'd look to southeast or southwest VT for color. I'm going to do a post on routes 133 and 140 in a few minutes. Check it out.
