Re: Jobs Pond - My Favorite NEK Foliage Location
Tim, those are great shots of Jobs Pond, makes me wish I could rent a canoe up there, you have some unique perspectives from the water. And I agree with MMVT, we are lucky to have some Vermont locals willing to share their knowledge and advice with us Flatlanders. I was born in Vermont, but have liv...

Re: Where Are The 30's Temperatures??
global warming is still with us, the cool temps in early September were just a tease. The Boston channel 4 TV weatherman, Eric Fisher, who also does weather for some CBS national stuff, did a New England foliage forecast last night on the news. It called for a warming trend in late September, and Er...

Jobs Pond - My Favorite NEK Foliage Location
Jobs Pond is my favorite foliage location in the Northeast Kingdom. It is technically in the town of Westmore, but is located closer to Newark. You can reach it from either Rt. 114 and turning south onto Newark Road, or by heading north on Abbott Hill Road from W. Burke / Newark. The best access to ...

Re: Picture Perfect Putney VT 9/8! Putney Mtn. Summit, Hidden Springs Maple, Putney General Store, Green Mountain Orchar
ctyanky, thanks for the trip report. Southeast Vermont along the Connecticut River (excluding Brattleboro) is IMO one of the most under-appreciated fall foliage destinations in the state. I was born and grew up in the area of Bellows Falls, VT and Walpole, NH which is just a short distance up the ri...

"of course what we never want is fog its our mortal enemy"
Fog is not your enemy. Fog is actually your friend, mood/drama and all that
I love to photograph foliage on foggy days, it usually means the leaves are slightly wet which really brings out the colors

Re: Seeking Tunnel/Canopy locations
Great! Now all I have to do is to keep looking for those elusive tunnels. :) CT, I know this is off-topic but given your expertise I'm going take the opportunity to ask if in your opinion it makes any sense to head west, or south, after VT. Or just call it a day, go home, settle back and savor the ...

Re: Peak reports
No dis-service to forestry folks (even if they do call back), but hands down your best source of foliage conditions information are the people who post on this forum. The hard-core photographers and leaf peepers who post actively here will give you much more specific advice about locations, down to ...

Re: Red leaves
I would explore Rt. 114 for 10 or 15 miles both north and south of Island Pond, and like I said wander around the back roads that go off from Rt. 114 as well. It was a bonanza of red maples in 2018.

Re: Red leaves
In the area around Island Pond Vt, along Rt.s 114 and Rt 105 there is a high concentration of red maples. The shoreline of nearby Jobs Pond in Newark has a lot of red maples too. The hillsides in this general area have a lot of red. get lost exploring the back roads in this area and I'm sure you wil...

Re: Photog Ed McGuirk in Nature Photographers Network, excellent article: The Colors of Spring – The “Other” Foliage Sea
I'm glad you enjoyed the article Carol. The colors of spring foliage are a very close second for me as well, and in some ways more exciting than autumn because spring is just so energetic and full of growth and rebirth. In another 7 to 10 days the colors of spring foliage should be in full swing in ...

So glad you enjoyed the article UtahBaker, thanks for taking the time to read it. Even in late May the trees in Vermont will still be in nice lime green colors, so I wish you good luck with your May trip.

Re: Photog Ed McGuirk in Nature Photographers Network, excellent article: The Colors of Spring – The “Other” Foliage Sea
Thank you for posting this here ctyanky. I'm sure some of our Fall foliage fanatics here at SOV will appreciate the parallels between autumn foliage colors and the more subtle, but still beautiful colors of spring foliage. For a few weeks each spring, the hardwood forests of New England put on displ...
