Re: november 5th-14th
If you're looking for fall colors, you will likely be late for most of New England, let alone a northern state such as Vermont. November is generally part of the year affectionately known as Stick Season (after the leaf fall and before the snows arrive). This is a rather sparsely visited part of the...

Re: northeast kingdom
One 65-70 mile trip that I have found enjoyable is the Island Pond loop. This far northeast corner of the state is the least populated and most pristine. There are very few roads here, and almost no towns to speak of. Since there is really only one route around, I probably don't even have to spell i...

Re: Trip to vermont
Hi Sandhya,
Take a look around the site at http://www.foliage-vermont.com. There is a wealth of information regarding when to come for which part of the state. Each part of the state is slightly different in its timing. Depending on when ...

Re: Fall Foliage around Stowe
Hi!
Some good spots in the Stowe area include taking the gondola ride up Mt. Mansfield on Mountain Road (Rte. 108) and walking on the trails up at the top. Of course, for good foliage, that may be a bit too high...the conifers start taking over....
...if you continue up 108 into Smugglers' Notch...

Re: Sept.22 thry Sept 28
Hi Mike,
You will be in the Champlain Valley which will probably have some good early color towards the end of your stay. Early in your stay, you'll want to get to the notheast corner of the state known as the Northeast Kingdom. The further north you go, the better. Sections closest to the Canadia...

Re: A Scenic Drive---response to MJMSS
Okay...checked it out. Number Nine Road is the left off of Bragg Hill Road. If you continue on #9 Hill, you will get back to Rte. 17 about 2 miles up from Rte. 100. Make your right there to get to the App Gap. Check out Mapquest for a map if you want. The signage should be good. Since Vermont went t...

Re: A Scenic Drive---response to MJMSS
From the bottom (Rte. 100), it is about 5 miles to Mad River Glen Ski Area, and then maybe only 2 or so miles to the top of the App Gap from there. Those two miles are considerably steeper and windier than the first five. A very do-able drive on a nicely paved road. http://www.pbpub.com/ubb/wink.gif...

A Scenic Drive---response to MJMSS
Well...hmmm....half a day, huh? Well, you already have a nice idea from Arlene regarding the NE Kingdom...so here's an idea in case you want to stay closer to the inn you're staying at.
Start out by heading into Waitsfield. Right before you hit Route 17, there is a right turn onto Bragg Hill Road....

Re: Last weekend in September
Last week in September will likely provide some good early color in higher elevations of Southern Vermont. For really good color, though, trek northbound. It depends on the year a bit, but a good bet would be to head to the Northeast Kingdom during that time period. They should be approaching peak a...

Re: Roads in Vermont
Well, one way to do that is to take 100 North out of the Mad River Valley via 100B through Moretown. If you take 100B to the end, make a right onto Rte. 2 East towards Montpelier. Follow signs for 2 East (not 2 Business unless you want to stop in Montpelier). This should be a right and then a left (...

Re: Roads in Vermont
Brook Road starts in Warren Village, and after a couple of miles turns left at a Y in the intersection. If you go right, that is Plunkton Road, which goes by Blueberry Lake and eventually gets back to Rte. 100 near Granville Gulf (Plunkton is a dirt road in moderately good condition). If you continu...
