FYI...
Bear Mountain is in Southeastern NY about 30-40 miles north of the Tappan Zee Bridge (have not been there myself)

Re: Lake Iroquois color?
Thanks, bm. I've actually traveled up the Warren side of the Lincoln Gap as well. What's going down through Lincoln like in comparison? Lincoln Gap (at least on the Warren side) is very interesting and is completely different from its sister gap, the App Gap. I was there in the summer, though, and h...

Re: Lake Iroquois color?
That's a nice ride pwt...question..I have yet to do the Brandon Gap Road. How is that? I've traveled App Gap, Smugglers, Roxbury Gap without trouble, so unless it's considerably harder than those roads, I think I'd like to try it. Thanks.

Re: Book recommendations?
Don't ask me where it is because there is just about no chance I will ever find this book in my stash at home, but I have read Country Roads of Vermont (available on Amazon). I remember it having lots of nice tidbits along the way. The book is full of day trips and such and, if I remember correctly,...

Re: Leaves changing early?
Hi, Returned from my annual summer Vt. trip last week. Definitely saw more color than in past years at the same time, but I agree that most of the trees that were changed were in wetlands or were stressed in some way (near a building, etc.). The only exception was up the App Gap. I saw some more tha...

Re: Beautiful Colors!
I'm glad that worked out (I guess you grabbed 100 in Wilmington?). I actually had the opportunity to do my quick foliage trip yesterday. We took 149/Fort Ann to Rte. 4 East into Rutland, and then to Killington where we picked up 100 North to Waitsfield. The Roxbury Gap was gorgeous as were all of th...

Re: need advice on Oct 11-12
Albany, NY or Albany, VT (I'm guessing NY or else why would you be writing?). If it's Albany, NY, Columbus Day Weekend should be a good time to view much of central and even southern VT. This is good news, since these are the areas not far from Albany. Take 87 to Glens Falls and take Rte. 149 to For...

Re: Foliage routes/Speed Limits
Hi, The general speed limit on most N-S roads over there is 50 mph (Rtes. 100 and 7) down to 30 or 35 in the towns. However, a fair portion of your Addison county tour goes E-W over the Greens (a good choice, mind you!). The speed limit is generally 40 mph over the mountains. Depending on your autom...

Wind??
I saw that portions of VT are expecting windy conditions tonight (especially west, but still 20-30 mph possible in the east). Does anyone have any opinions as to whether the trees are still 'early' enough that they will hold onto leaves pretty well through this event? My guess is that since the west...

Barring any weather catastrophes, you should be just fine during that time period in that area of the state.
Daniel

Re: Need Advise
Hi,
You will be right in the thick of the peak season at that point. Of course, you must understand it won't be peak everywhere; you'll have to find it...but at that time it should not be that tough. Where to stay...I would suggest the central part of the state...anywhere from Killington (somewhat...

Re: foliage trip for oct 21st weekend
It might be a bit late for all except extreme southern Vermont. It'll also be late for a good chunk of New Hampshire by the 26th. There is some great color in the Berkshires of Massachusetts just south, but no guarantees on that (I am not as familiar with their precise season dates). The weekend of ...

Tim--
To anwer your question about the QTVR stuff...I know what you're looking for. I am not too sure myself. I know there is a lake near Norton off to the west of 114, but I have not gone over there to take a look. Though it is rather scenic (landscape-y), another spot might be near Wallace Pond ...
