Re: specific suggestions for bennington, manchester, rutland

Looks like I got to this too late.. since I saw another message that said you were coming up on the 19th. But you posted it after 11 pm on the 18th and I was already asleep.. sorry! --c

Re: day trip from boston on 10/24

Bear in mind, Manish, that the Fingers are *east* of Buffalo, not south. You may do better foliage-wise going south at this point. --c

Re: day trip from boston on 10/24

Boston to Buffalo is about an 8 hour drive. Add in a side-trip to Vermont and you are looking at 9 or 10. I don't expect there to be much left by the time you get here, so quite honestly, I would not do that. If you really want to see some color and are willing to drive for it, you'd probably be bet...

Re: specific suggestions for bennington, manchester, rutland

Hi Josh, There are two basic ways to get to southern VT from Boston. Since you said you were planning on coming through Bennington first, it sounds like you are planning to take the Pike out to near Lee and then take 7 north. That's certainly one option, and the color in western MA might indeed be v...

SW Vermont foliage report

Drove into Bennington today... There is basically nothing left above 2000 feet here in the Greens; about 80-90% bare trees, the rest having some yellows and orange/brown. 1500-2000 is a bit better; I am not sure what the Wilminton (Mt. Snow) valley is like right now but I'd imagine it has some color...

Re: How is it out there?

Well... wish I had better news but the situation isn't that much better at elevation here in the south. I lost about 80-90% of my leaves yesterday, but I'm up above 2000 feet. Basically, I would say anyone coming up even to southern VT needs to focus on the lower elevations of the CT Valley (Brattle...

Re: Day trip from Boston on Oct 20th

Can't speak for other areas, but at least around here, this storm has moved us from just past peak to... well.. November. :( I would suggest that anyone planning to come up this weekend lean towards activities in the valleys, left or right. Charles

Re: Colors of Vermont

I have given up on trying to figure out what "peak" means. To me, this area is already starting to look past peak, because many of the trees are getting bare and a lot of leaves are on the ground. You folks are saying we are nearing peak but I would bet in a week from now only a quarter of the trees...

Southern VT foliage report 10/12/03

Hey all, I had occasion yesterday to drive around much of southern VT. The color has really come on strong in the last week. The prior weekend I was in the Deerfield Valley and almost everything was green, I figured we would be another 10+ days until good color, but it is all really at or close to p...

Re: Colors of Vermont

Hey Florindo, Glad you made it up okay! Nice shots too. The first looks like the lower reservoir where I sent you; the water was not quite as calm as I hoped it would be for you but it appears you got there a bit early in the day (the water doesn't soften until after sunset). The second shot.. I hav...

Re: Please Help - Specific Photography Situation

Thanks Florindo.. glad you like it and glad to be of service. I am planning to be back there early tomorrow am and also probably at dusk. Maybe I'll see you there. :) Oh.. a word of warning. The water levels change constantly since it's a reservoir and right now there are some black rocks exposed ar...

Re: Please Help - Specific Photography Situation

pwt: Some forums allow you to attach a file from a local hard drive but this one doesn't. You have to upload it somewhere on the web and then put the web URL in the IMG tags. That's what I did. poosmoos: By November 2 there will be nothing left in the higher elevations, so my directions won't matter...

Re: First Timer

Not sure I agree about route 7 vs. 7A.. they are very different to be sure. 7A is nice if you want to see the locale better, but there is some excellent scenery on route 7 because it goes right next to the western spine of the Greens. Might be worth taking one going north, the other going south. --c

pwt: When you are composing a reply, look for the "IMAGE" button below the edit box, click it. That's it. :)

BTW... would you consider the picture I posted to be "peak", "past peak", "pre-peak", what? --c

Re: Please Help - Specific Photography Situation

Hey Florindo, First, I could be mistaken, but at least here in the south we only got a touch of snow a week ago. Even up north it has been fairly warm for many days so I am not sure if there is really any snow left. Maybe one of the "northerners" can answer that. ;) Okay I have a few ideas for you i...
