Poconos Foliage - October 28th

Yesterday we went on a trip to Southern Poconos (Carbon Countly, Hickory Run State Park, Beltzville State Park). We found great color there, at peak. We had lunch in the great little town of Jim Thorpe, so nice there. Dominating colors there are normally gold, bronze and orange and indeed it's what ...

Beautiful pics!
Tomorrow we are goung to the Poconos (Jim Thorpe area, Carbon county), where according to the reports, peak is right now.
However, today's storm will likely ruin most of it....

Re: My Trip in South Vermont and Berkshire Oct 12-14

I actually don't love that previous picture of the Equinox pond. It was taken with an iPHONE and it came out oversaturated (too orange). I was finally able to download on my laptop the pictures that my wife did with her Olympus reflex camera. And they look much better and closer to what we saw: It i...

Re: My Trip in South Vermont and Berkshire Oct 12-14

Thank you Utah Baker!!
Yes, the weather last Saturday (Oct 13th) was very challenging even in South Vermont, especially in the morning.
Luckily enough, the sky cleared when we headed north towards Rutland!

Re: Fantasy Sunrise This AM - My Vermont "Moment" for 2018 Foliage Season

Here is my Vermont moment for 2018.
I opened the curtains of our motel room in Bennington at 6:50 am last Sunday and saw this. As mentioned, most of this color came overnight, and wasn't there the previous day.

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

A week ago the hills around Shelburne Falls MA seemed promising, with 10-15% trees being bright orange/red and no leaf drop.
However I have no idea of how things have progressed in a week.

Re: Enfield, CT - Color change rapidly occuring

Beautiful picture Loafer! Curiosity/Naive question: what is it that determines the color? I mean, why does a tree turn red rather then orange or yellow? For example, last Sunday night/early morning trees in Bennington turned to a bright orange (almost fluorescent) and I didn't see many reds. On the ...

Re: My Trip in South Vermont and Berkshire Oct 12-14

In the report of my trip I forgot to mention the Equinox pond.
We found it probably 2 or 3 days past peak, and the light was definitely not the best for good pictures. And it was pouring.
But I will still have great memories of this beautiful pond.

Re: Procrastinated Enough!

Hi Dan! Bennington and the whole routes 7 and 7A up to Manchester were peaking last Sunday, while areas around Manchester (e.g. Mount Equinox) were just past peak. Not sure what you will find next weekend. South-East Vermont forget about it, unless something magic happens during this frosty week. Go...

Re: My Trip in South Vermont and Berkshire Oct 12-14

Here I am, back at work in Philly. Our trip was definitely too short and I miss New England already (Go Eagles though :) )! We spent 36 hours in Vermont, nearly half of them under a washout on Saturday. Next we drove on top of top of Mount Grelyock, then Mohawk trail up to bridge of Flowers, and the...
