North Central Massachusetts & CRV 10-14-18

I did a morning drive with my son today to North Central Massachusetts. We traveled on I91 to Route 9 West, Route 116, Route 112, Route 2, Route 112 into Vermont, North River Road along the Green River and back to I-91 in Greenfield. The foliage was well past peak on Route 9 around the Cummington ar...

Re: Northwest Corner of Connecticut's hill towns foliage update 10/13

I just did a drive around the backroads in Enfield. We have about 20% color change in spots, but most foliage is still green. I'm curious how the foliage color will change over the next few days. It was 33.8F here this morning with frost, so that should speed the foliage along. Nothing looks too thr...

Re: Looking for advice - foliage related

Those dates are way too late for foliage in the Southern Berkshires. By late October, full fall foliage will only be found along coastline areas from Boston on down to coastal Connecticut. You might want to start further south, maybe the NYC area, Philadelphia, or Baltimore/Washington. You might fin...

Re: Leaf-drop after heavy rain today

I'll be up to Mt Greylock tomorrow, hoping for good foliage conditions on the drive up. We are taking I-91 to I-90 to Route 7 and Route 2 home. Currently it's snowing in Vermont above 2,700' and accumulating above 3,000'.

Re: Leaf-drop after heavy rain today

I have spoken over the phone with Mount Greylock's rangers. The good news is very limited leaf drop after this morning's wind. On the other hand, they say color is <50%. They said that the next could of nights, that will be pretty chilly, might accelerate the color dramatically. I'll be there on Su...

Re: Leaf-drop after heavy rain today

Fairly significant leaf drop above 2,500' across Vermont based on the webcam views. It's also very windy behind the CF with winds in the 20-30mph range. Here in Enfield the foliage is about 85% green. I'm thinking we will have a spectacular finish here with seasonable weather sticking around for the...

Re: Leaf-drop after heavy rain today

Your best bests for foliage in Southern/Central Vermont this weekend will probably be I-91 and the CRV, perhaps the Ascutney area, Route 9 at lower elevations, Route 7 and Route 112. Not only did we have heavy rain today, but winds behind the CF are forecast to be up to 30mph on Friday. Mt Greylock ...

Re: Another weather 'miss' this weekend :(

I feel the same about this weekends weather. It was originally supposed to be sunny on Saturday and now it's a 50% chance of rain. The NWS is even mentioning the chance for snow flurries above 2,000' on Saturday, quite a big difference from the near 90F weather yesterday afternoon. I'm done with the...

I had the A/C on in the car once I hit I-91, not something I remember doing during foliage season. Lots of bug's hitting the windshield as well.

Killington - Okemo - Mount Snow 10-10-18

I did the drive up to Killington today expecting peak foliage, but nearly everywhere I traveled was past peak. The best foliage color to be found was between Pico and Bridgewater Corner on Route 4. Killington is going bare above 3,000' and I missed peak foliage by around 3 days. Heading south on Rou...

Re: 8th and 9th - best bets

The heavy rain on Thursday looks to be the death of foliage in Vermont, except for valley areas. Do you think it will be that bad? That sound very drastic and scary for people that are planning to go there the next weekend.... The NWS has 1.00 - 1.50" of rain forecast for the Mount Snow area and a ...

Re: 8th and 9th - best bets

I'm heading up to Vermont tomorrow and I am wondering where to go exactly. The original plan was to go to Killington and then head south on Route 100 to Mount Snow. Based on what I can see on the Stratton webcam, the foliage above 2,500' looks past peak. I may just go to Mount Snow and decide from t...

Thank you, I'm glad we went yesterday as today is cloudy with a low ceiling. I was hoping to go to Mount Snow/Stratton today, but it's just too gloomy for me.
