It is hard to say right now, at least until this storm moves out of here. The low hanging clouds are making it difficult to see what is happening to the leaves on the higher elevation mountainsides. I have a feeling that the Peacham area is going to be closest to peaking this weekend since it seemed...

There are a lot of nice little towns along both sides of the CT River coming up Route 5 that are often overlooked by the masses travelling on the adjecent interstate in the hills above the valley. Bellows Falls, Bradford and Wells River are nice little towns the have good potential for pictures. The...

Almost every one of the the smaller Northern VT Lakes/Ponds have loons. Newark Pond, Long Pond, Jobs Pond, May Pond, Kettle Pond (Groton), and many more. Sometimes you need a Kayak or Canoe to get to the part of the waterbody they hang out in. Just don't get to close.

Great Shots! I concur with MrBumps' report. the colors are out and looking great. The Peacham area is a bit behind other parts of the NEK but that should make it about perfect for next weekend. Let's see if I can add a few pics... Mt. Hor, Lake Willoughby (South Beach) on Sunday: http://www.foliage-...

My hunch is that there will still be lots of color late next week in the areas we wanna see (St. Johnsbury southward). But I need someone to reassure me that you think so too! The frost(s) early last week really accelerated the color change. The St J area is in peak right now but it should hold on ...

There are some special foliage trains that run this time of year that typically have a more specific schedule. There is one that usually starts at the St Johnsbury Welcome Center and heads south toward Barnet. I haven't hear if it is running this year. Here is a link to check out for some other trai...

There are several fiction books by Howard Frank Mosher that are set in Vermont (mostly the NEK). A few were turned into full production movies. Where the Rivers flow North" was the original (and my opinion the best) book to movie adaptation.

Aspen, If you're referring to the photos that come up on Google maps, that's sort of "automatic". Those are photos other people have taken and loaded to Google maps. But, you're welcome anyway. :) I hope this helps people find some spots and photos they wouldn't have otherwise. And, I hope nobody g...

Re: NEK's Suggested Drives

Some out of towners will be only able to make a day trip to the Northeast Kingdom. 1. Taking that into consideration, which of your two wonderful drives on this thread would you recommend for a day trip? 2. Is it possible to drive, both, your previous drive posted which is in the Lyndonville/Burke ...

Scenic Drive, DRIVING ROUTE - I call this one NEK Southwest-short: I cobbled this together from various roads I driven over the years (mostly off the beaten path). LOTS of turns here. The road layout in western Caledonia and Orleans Countys do not follow a nice linear pattern along the ridgelines a...

Some of the ski resort areas may have condos to rent as well. Typically more expensive than a hotel but cozier.
