Re: Next Year coming 5 days before Columbus Day

We drove from Quechee Gorge to Stowe today. The best road we travelled was the Moretown road from Northfield Falls to Moretown. It was really pretty, I thought. Rt 12 from Woodstock to Barnard was nice too. Quechee Gorge is worth seeing even though the foliage there isn't the best right now. If you ...

Re: Hazen's Notch Road

Come to think of it, maybe it is still costing you an arm and a leg! Should we take up a collection? :)

Re: Hazen's Notch Road

PWT, You are the best! I'm glad gas prices have gone back down so it's not costing you an arm and a leg to check out the routes for us! I'm really disappointed to hear about the notch. But we may go anyway just for the heck of it. Living here in West Texas, even past peak there will probably look pr...

Re: We are going to Vermont!

Thanks, PWT. I guess I will just keep checking here until Friday and maybe get some more ideas of good places to go for the best foliage. So keep that info coming. This is a great site!

Hazen's Notch Road

Does anyone know how the foliage is on that road now? We enjoyed that drive two years ago even though we were a little late. Would really like to try it again.

Re: We are going to Vermont!

We are staying in Stowe on the 10th, 11th, and 12th. We want to drive the gap roads on the 10th as we will be driving from Quechee that day and the Mt. Mansfield road on the 11th. And I really want to go back to Owl's Head Lookout. PWT, you suggested that for us two years ago and it was great. Tell ...

We are going to Vermont!

Hello everyone, I am so excited that things have worked out and we will be able to get there this year. We only made the decision last week so I had to get on the ball. I was able to get lodging without too much trouble but couldn't be too picky. Anyway, I will have a few questions in the next coupl...

Re: Smuggler's Notch

Roxbury gap was a nice ride--not a problem drive at all---once I realized what the dirt roads in Vermont are like. I hope to do it again next year. I was somewhat nervous the first time and probably didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. But if I hadn't had the advice of this great forum, I probab...

Re: Where's the snow?

What a great picture! IXL, where in the mountains is that, if you don't mind me asking? As much as I love Vermont, I don't think I could handle your winters but I love to see the pictures. Here in Texas, we haven't even had much fall weather yet, let alone winter. Of course, we rarely get a big snow...

Re: Smuggler's Notch

Thanks to all for helping me get a better picture of the area around Smuggler's Notch. Daniel, you have a great memory! It was me that you and PWT and Kerry Gough convinced to drive the Roxbury Gap road back in 2002. After that trip, I realized that the dirt roads of Vermont are nothing like the dir...

Smuggler's Notch

I know the season is basically over so I guess there won't be many people here to talk to. If anyone is listening, could you please tell me about the drive through Smuggler's Notch. What is it like during foliage season? I read somewhere that there is a portion that is only one lane---is that true? ...

Re: Outstanding Vermont guide book

24Vermont,
I had seen the info on the quarry but thought it sounded boring. After hearing your description, I think I will have to go there! Just another example of how valuble this forum is.
Did you go on any of the tram rides in Vermont?

Re: Outstanding Vermont guide book

I just placed an order two days ago for several books and videos and didn't order that one. I had it on my list and for some reason decided against it. I will have to go back and get it now for sure. It sounds like a great guide. If you like covered bridges, you should get the Covered Bridges of Ver...

Re: Fall 2006

I am also trying to plan for next year. We didn't get to go this year and now I think maybe that was a good thing, although I wanted to so bad! We have been two years in the past, 2002 and 2004. I don't think we saw peak foliage either time but what I saw was good enough for me. We will probably inc...
