Re: State of color

Following Ed's observations, I took 114 through Averill, Canaan and went up 3 North through Pittsburg and to the border. Color was very good throughout. Then yesterday I took the other side of 3 down to Colebrook and Dixville Notch. Colebrook was nice, but Dixville Notch was simply dazzling, especia...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Hello CT - sorry, I had missed your question regarding Maple Hill. I found its reference in Arnold Kaplan's handbook. Not in the original book, but in the few pages that I received as an "addendum" to the original book. It says to go to Belmont, VT and go up the Maple Hill road from the Belmont Gene...

Re: Foliage Report from the NEK 10/01/21

LoL - no, I am actually out, and I do have rain protectors for my camera. It's been more of a drizzle than rain actually.

Seeing a lot of brown around, so if anybody has seen some nice pops north of St Johnsbury please post.

Here's May Pond from yesterday, straight from Camera's wifi.

Re: Foliage Report from the NEK 10/01/21

Arrived in Brownington mid-afternoon from Boston. As edmcguirk says, colors got better as I traveled north. Spent some time at the Crystal lake, Bean Pond and May Pond. Bean Pond was especially nice. But colors still seem a bit muted. May be more will turn in the next couple of days? Feels funny to ...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Hi all, Not sure if you are able to access it, but here are the places I am hoping to visit (at least most of them, I hope): https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1BbB0OoGo5EE_wyeU2IARGpGhdZy89Me2&usp=sharing - I plan to cover the "northern cluster" during Oct 1-4 and the "southern cluster" dur...

Thank you, Andy! Your eBook has been on my kindle for a few months now, and is going with me to NEK :-) Such a great photography resource!

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Thanks for the wonderful suggestions so far. My trip is booked! Will spend 3 nights in NEK (Oct 1-4) (near Lake Willoughby) and then 3 nights in E Burke. Hopefully this will let me navigate the region flexibly as colors move. I will keep an eye out on the postings here to get a sense of foliage peak...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Hello experts - one more question. Any suggestions on towns that I can use as bases where I'd have easy drive access to places of interest? Based on the comments so far, it appears that I could pick a town in NEK and another in Central Vermont? Or, may be just stay in Montpelier (roughly an hour dri...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Excellent suggestions, edmcguirk and CT. Skipping southern VT makes a lot of sense. For now, it looks like my best bet would be to arrive in Burlington on 30th Sep or 1st Oct and then remain flexible. Will very much appreciate if you can share any insights about color as weather unfolds over the nex...

Visitor from California - help needed to plan foliage viewing starting from NEK then going south

Hello Folks, With COVID restrictions lifted, I am looking forward to planning for a full week of foliage photography in Vermont, and I hope you, the local experts, can help me plan! I am planning to start from around Barton and then working my way down southwest, possibly ending in Bennington. Based...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

Sorry - it took me a while to respond. Last Sunday was mostly spent in covering the Berkshires (7, 183, 23). Colors were coming along nicely, but perhaps I was early by a few days. Also, lots of bare branches. But overall, no complaints. There were always surprises waiting round the corner of a back...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

I spent most of the afternoon around the back roads of the Quabbin reservoir area. It was disappointing for the most part. Colors were generally muted, and lots of sticks. I will try my luck with the Berkshires tomorrow. There must be some area within a 100 mile radius of Hartford that's showing off...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

I just spoke to couple of B&B owners in the Litchfield area. It seems we are still 4-5 days away. As I'm here only for the weekend, I'll try my luck around NE Connecticut and Berkshires, unless others have any better ideas.

Thanks,
Prabal.

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

Hello, I made a slight change in my itinerary. Instead of EWR, I am flying into Bradley on Fri (10/19) night. Staying close to the airport for the night. I am taking the Amtrak from New Haven back to Penn Station, NY on Sunday night to catch my return flight from JFK next morning. Based on how the c...

Re: Visitor from California - help needed to time foliage viewing for Southern VT

Hello CT: okay, I am booked now for my travel. Flying into EWR on Friday (10/19) night, and flying out of JFK on Monday morning. So, I have 2 full days to explore. Let me know if you'd like to share any details as you know more about foliage conditions.

Thanks again, and Can't Wait!!

- Prabal.
