State foliage report for September 25th, 2020

This week marks the official start of fall, and that feels right in sync with what we are experiencing on the ground. Early risers in many parts of Vermont have awakened to a moonlit silver sheen of frost on the ground, and cool and abundantly sunny days have made for perfect leaf peeping weather. F...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

Foliage color in the NEK is near peak! I was on the bike path in Newport late this afternoon and saw these swamp maples "on fire" as they say. BTW, the cell tower

you see on the hill in the distance is in Canada.
While there, I saw this eagle? Can anyone identify it?

Cloudland - Woodstock area Sept 23

I was in Woodstock today and headed at once to Cloudland. This is THE location for the best foliage views in this area. Unfortunately I was a bit early, the color is about a week to 5 days behind the NEK. It was the same along the Ottaquechee river between Quechee and Woodstock...I took a few snaps ...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

Yes, the color is about a week ahead of what it showed last year. Peak was around the end of the month in the NEK last year, but I think it will be sooner this year.

Bennett Farm

The Bennett Farm overlooks Lake Echo, near East Charleston. While biking on the roads around the lake this summer, I often wondered if the setting would make a good foliage picture. This one was taken with my drone on the morning of September 22nd. As you can see, the foliage color is at about 75 pe...

Re: Foliage color in the NEK

Thanks for your post. Yes, the color seems to be coming on fast and I agree its probably because of the drought we've had. I was in Island Pond this afternoon and went to check my usual spots for color. This one shows how the color is heading towards peak!!

Frost has paid an early visit to pockets of the state as this week graces Vermont with cool, crisp nights and warm, sunny days—conditions that contribute to our most vibrant foliage. And while the best of fall color is yet to come, signs of the season abound. Forests in many parts of the state are t...

New Lodging Regulations

In his weekly press conference, Governor Scott has announced an easing of lodging restrictions. Inns, bed and breakfasts and hotels can now go to full occupancy. This is a change from the previous 50 percent rule. However, 14 day quarantine restrictions will still apply to anyone coming from a red o...

Foliage is getting started early this year

The foliage color is begining to appear all over Vermont. Most observers say that the color is appearing about a week early. Also, the color seems more vibrant this year. This could be because of far less rainfall this summer and spring. Many of the streams and brooks are showing very low water leve...

Lodging restrictions may soon be lifted

There is a lot of buzz about a possible announcement from Governor Scott about lodging restrictions. An aide to the governor says a decision will likely come this Friday during the governor's regular press conference. Inns, hotels and B&Bs have been limited to 50 percent occupancy, plus customers mu...
