Re: we luv vermont

You are right about wanted to go back. Sounds like Vermont will have to expand their borders in a few years to accomodate all of us planning to go for months at a time. That is my goal after retirement. Rent a house for a month in the fall and just sick back and take in the laid back lifestyle. Heav...

Re: we luv vermont

I agree joemagic. I just returned as well. Burlington is always the last to change so if all else fails, people missing color in other parts could see color in Burlington. I too welcome the laid back feeling in Vermont. As I was driving in the Houston traffic today, I thought these people need to go...

Re: need advise

I agree with the above advice. I just returned from Vermont and it was still pretty green in the very south. It should be nice in the south when you are going. Woodstock and Queechee are always nice places to visit. Manchester is great for shopping and if you like tours the tour of Hildene (Robert T...

Re: oct 12-16 vermont

From NH you can drive to and from a lot of places in eastern Vermont in a day, so even though you are not staying in Vermont, you can see it every day. In Vermont I like Queechee, White River Junction and Woodstock area. It is in mid east area. If you can't find anything else the Ascutny Mountain Re...

Re: A Scenic Drive---response to MJMSS

Thanks for the great information on the drives and things to see. I am always looking for things I have not seen and I think I will enjoy the Norwich/Warren area.

Thanks for the tip about the chamber of commerce. I don't always know the names of the small towns that have the flea markets and smaller fairs.
I will try a few towns and see what they have to offer.
Thanks

Re: drive itinerary and accomodation advice

Sharon,
It sounds like a lot of Texans are going to be in Vermont in October. Of course while you are in Vermont you see beautiful things that you want to capture in a picture (you never can capture the true beauty). People pull over quickly, stop in streets, go on privcate drives...
After m...

Re: drive itinerary and accomodation advice

It is getting a little late to find a room at a decent price. The drive from Manchester to Vermont is easy and you cross the border into Vermont after about 45 min to an hour. Places to try depending on your liking and the price you want to pay;
Ski resorts: Ascutney (central by White River Junct...

Road trip straight through with 3 kids sounds like torture. At least there was a great treat at the end. Thanks for idea about the pizza shop around Smuggs. It is the word of mouth places that end up being the best. I am anxious about staying in Smuggler's Notch this year (first time). Our first yea...

Re: Burlington VT on 10/12-10/13

Since you are going to be there a short amount of time staying in Burlington is smart because there is a lot to do around Burlington. Depending on what you like the Stowe area is great. Trapp Family Lodge (von Trapp family from Sound of Music) is in Stowe and a really nice thing to see. Close by is ...

Re: Trip to New England from TX on Oct 17-21st, where will t

Fellow Texan here with the same idea you have. This will be my 6th year in a row to visit Vermont in the fall. The first year I flew into Boston, but the drive was a bit long, so the next 4 times we flew into Manchester, NH. It was an inexpensive way to go, and the drive to the north portion of Verm...
