Re: NEK from a 10 to 0
...many trees might show a little color later... Yeah this year is a complete reversal of the year we had last year. The worst I've seen since 2005. However, All is not lost, yet. I just got back from a lunchtime cruise around the West Burke/Sutton area and the change since yesterday is quite appar...

Lyndonville area 10/3
Took a quick drive around the hill this morning. Sorry to report more of the same. Still lots of green along some field edges, and lower stories of the forest. Colors that are around are very muted. Most sugarbushes in this area are completely gone by (aided by maple leaf cutters). After 3 frosty ni...

Tim that is one spectacular photo. We will be in Vermont for the full Harvest moon. I can't wait. How far is Waitsfield from White River Junction? It depends on route. If you take I-89 to Middlesex and down Rt 100 it is around 1 hr 15 min. If you take Exit 3 off of I-89 oyu have the option of going...

Re: Killington Colors
Excellent use of the early morning mist to create some beautiful photos. Even without bright foliage for a backdrop, you still have some great shots there.
It looks like there are plenty of leaves left on the tree there. They should be in top form by next weekend.

Best Bets (North to South): – Take Vermont Route 16 north out of Hardwick and follow it through Glover and into Barton, continuing northwest to Vermont Route 5A, also known as the Northeast Kingdom Byway. – Follow Vermont Route 5 between St. Johnsbury and Derby, passing West Burke, Coventry, and Ne...

Peacham is a great place to photograph the moonrise as well. The view to the east is excellent there.

Re: NEK Report 9/27 - the Last Day of Heat
Update. The wind is kind of hitting a reset button on the leaves this afternoon. The cooked leaves are being blown off leaving a lot of green. Unfortunately that means roughly 25% of the leaves are gone already. However not all is lost, the remaining leaves should be able to put on a show over the n...

NEK Report 9/27 - the Last Day of Heat
It is very hot and humid again here in the NEK today. The leaves have continued to stagnate their color change. This afternoon the cold front is supposed to go through with some potentially severe storms (and high winds :( ). The saving grace is that I think most of the leaves that had changed have ...

Re: So Mother Nature Has Thrown Us A Curve Ball...
Looking back a couple of years and 2015 was sort of like this in that the foliage ended up being a bit late. However, that year just started late and I don't recall there being much early color change. From this morning: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4433/37203381116_451afcf699_c.jpg Early Hillside...

Re: So Mother Nature Has Thrown Us A Curve Ball...
I just took a drive around the northern Passumpsic River valley this morning. It is amazing how this heat completely stopped the color change. Many of the leaves on trees that were showing early decent color have dried up and fallen off. However, that is less than 10% of the leaves. There are still ...

Re: Foliage This Year - Some Observations and Comments
Very good points. I think the deep river valleys peaking earlier than the hilltops is due to morning fog. The thick fog can often hang in those valleys until almost midday which the trees adjust to as shorter amounts of daylight. So they shed their leaves earlier.

Re: State Foliage Report for September 20th
If it wasn't for this unusually warm weather we would have been peaking this week. The heat has really slowed down the initial early color change.

Re: Fall trip. Need help to fix my routes
Your plan looks excellent. Hardwick and/or Greensboro do not have a lot of lodging options. You may want to get something reserved very soon if you haven't already.
