Re: Vermont Trip: sept 22-24

I doubt that the fall colors are going to be heavy at all, but I am going to suggest a route you can take from Williamstown that would be a nice drive for someone interested in taking pretty photographs. In fact, the early splotches of color might be just perfect for some early fall shots.
From Wi...

Re: Foliage tour near Peacham area

Peacham is one of the prettiest areas of Vermont. When you get there, stop at the Peacham Store and look for a hand draw map by the Peacham Corner Guild. It has about 25 spots marked on the map where you get an outstanding view. It is a great little map!
Even though you can follow printed guides, ...

Re: A Scenic Drive---response to MJMSS

Daniel has done a GREAT job in the information and routes he suggested to you. Though a southerner, I stay in Waitsfield every year during foliage time and I have taken all those roads.
A couple of suggestions that I add to your enjoyment of the excellent routes given to you. As you go up Rt. 100...

Re: Roads in Vermont

Let me give you some assurance about the Roxbury Gap road. It runs from East Warren Road over to Rt. 12A and Roxbury. You just take a left, go about 6 miles to Rt. 12, turn left and you are in the Northfield area. Though pavement and dirt, it is a great road. I have taken it each year for years and ...

Re: Photography

I have been coming to Vermont during the first part of October for 15 years. The best places for photography are what YOU see that appeals to YOU. I have hundreds of slides and most of them are scenes that unexpectedly appeared but were exceptional to me. Look for scenes like that first and then go ...

Daniel:
Thanks for the thoughtful and good information you posted. I have not been on all of that route so that is a nice option to look at.
Your report makes me excited! Re: October 4 - 6, which area is best?

I agree. Your best bet would be Montpelier. It is a great, beautiful little village and a very relaxing place. From there, you can make super day trips to see the good parts of Central Vermont.
Be sure and travel east out to the Peacham area. You may want to even cross into New Hampshire and go th...

Re: Sept. 30 thru Oct. 4...or Oct. 7 thru 12

I have been going to Vermont anywhere from the last few days in Sept. to mid Oct. for fifteen years. Every year I become very anxious as to whether I will miss the best foliage or not. I have always been thrilled by what I have seen because of several things.
Vermont is a small state. It is only 1...

Re: Train from NYC

I am sure the train ride would be interesting and attractive. However, I would highly recommend driving from New York to Vermont. I visit that area every fall in the first week of October and, from Connecticut to Vermont, the scenery is spectacular. You would no doubt witness the best in peak foliag...

Re: Fall Foliage - 10/5 - 10/10

Hi, Susanne. I remember so well many of your suggestions last year and appreciate them this year, too. I was curious about the Killington Gondola. Is it a multiple passenger one or limited to four or six people, which I prefer? Will be in Woodstock 10/4 and 5; Manchester 6, 7 and 8; Waitsfield (Roun...
