The Quechee - Woodstock Area

Quechee's annual Balloon Festival and Crafts Fair draws thousands every year. But only a mile or so from the festival grounds is the stillness of Dewey Pond, just across from the Quechee Inn.

Balloons fly throughout the summer and fall from Quechee's Green. For a morning flight (usually the best), you have to get up at around 5.00 am!

The Woodstock, Quechee & Area on Scenes of Vermont

Welcome to the Woodstock Quechee region, what many people see when they envision quintessential Vermont. Well-kept horse farms, proximity to many of Vermont's best ski resorts, town greens shaded by century-old maple trees, and quaint shops selling all manner of things make this area one of Vermont's most popular tourist destinations. Some people might call it manufactured country charm, but on the other hand it's a comfortable place to escape, especially if you are sick of the paved-mayhem of city life and the frenetic pace of its suburban counterpart. The area harkens back to simpler times when life and the world was a less complicated place.

Quechee, Woodstock and its environs have become home to urban and suburban ex-patriates, who with their well-developed city taste, have provided a market for good food, art and music. Gourmet coffees, fine wines and imported cheeses, well-crafted bread and confections are widely available in quaint general stores and shops. And you'll find some of the finest restaurants in Vermont throughout this area. But beyond this Martha Stewart-like postcard lies another experience that many people unfortunately miss. Just drive 10 minutes from either village and you'll find general stores where you may get a bit of local legend to go with your purchase, dairy farms that likely supplied the milk for the cheese you ate today, and a host of other cottage industries. If it sounds like the area has something for everyone, you're right. How much of it you get to enjoy is entirely up to you.
