Where to stay when visiting VT
Hello all,
I've been reading lot of threads in the forum.
We are planning to visit places near stowe in the first week of October. Planning to drive from NJ.
Any suggestions on which place (as in city) would be better to stay?
Thank you,
Sree

Thank you bm. I would definitely appreciate any suggestions for drives.bm wrote:I'd stay right in the Stowe/Waterbury area. I'd get on the phone/internet and make lodging reservations ASAP. You don't want to "wing it".
Would you like some suggestions for drives? There are lots of good ones in that area.
I have not seen the Stowe Moss Glen Falls. Bingham Falls, however, is a steep hike down into the gorge. It is also not well marked. There is a "turnoff" that has a Map and parking just South of the "real" turnoff and another area with tables and vault style lavatories, just North of it. The turnoff for Bingham is unmarked and is across (West) the road from the trailhead. To get there, head North on 108 out of Stowe and proceed up the Mountain a fair ways. The walk back out will get your heart working. If you are not used to exercise, beware. It is a significant "horsetail" falls with a nice pool. It is worth the walk. Very peaceful and majestic once you get there. You can see what you are in for BINGHAM FALLS and BINGHAM FALLS.
I agree that the "other" Moss Glen Falls is interesting. Much easier to get to on foot, too

If it sounds too good to be true, its probably . . . .

There is a parking area about a 10th of a mile north of the "Inn at the Mountain" on the left side. The trail is across from this parking area. To get to the Stowe Moss Glen falls, take route 100 north from Stowe Village. About 2 miles north of Stowe you will come to a 1/4 mile long straight section with a farm on the left side. At the end of this straight section, route 100 does a sweeping curve to the left. At the beginning of this curve and coming straight at you on the right side is the Randolph Road. Bear right onto the Randolph Road and take your first dirt road on the right side (the Moss Glen Falls road) and drive this road until it curves sharply to the right. You will see a small parking area. Park there and take the trail to the falls. Not a hard hike.
