Suggestions welcome!

My husband and I are making our first trip to the NE area Sept. 23 - Oct. 1. Although I have gathered quite a bit of info on Maine and New Hampshire, I've not been as lucky with Vermont. I have tried to find a travel book published by the state tourism board but to no avail. I was able to do this with the other 2 states with an e-mail request. I am not finding anything other than VTliving and it's not quite what I'm looking for. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. We are staying in Centre Harbor, NH as a base camp for various day trips - I'm hoping this will work out well. My other question is clothing related. We prefer casual and comfortable to chic. (Standard southern Missouri attire)Are we in trouble? Any suggestions for "must do"s in Vermont are most welcome. I appreciate this opportunity to ask for input. Thanks!

Frommers Fall Folliage travel book (any book store) is also good. It comes with a map in it of all NE. I too would like a good map of Vermont. I'll get one when I get there. My friends who live in Mass. and sister lives in Quechee, says casual attire is fine. If you plan on doing fine dining a simple wrap skirt or nice pants and blouse or nice with a scarf and skimmer type shoes should be fine. Otherwise, dockers and blazer (preppy) I would think is the norm. Also the jeans and golf shirt also. I can't wait to see the leaves either. I live in CA and grew up in Ohio. Fall has always been my fav. time of year and I miss the leaves and weather. <BR>Have a great trip.

Lynne,Everybody has given you great ideas, and there's also a book that Vermont Life puts out, called TRAVEL VERMONT the Best of the Green Mountain State. You should be able to get one by calling 1-800-vermont or log onto <A HREF="http://www.1-800-vermont.com;" TARGET=_blank>www.1-800-vermont.com;</A> these will get you to the Dept. of Tourism & Marketing, and that dept. is the one producing VT LIFE magazine and the TRAVEL VT book...I have used the TRAVEL VERMONT book to plan excursions all around the state, it's a book of 16 driving tours that take you through many scenic byways and out-of-the way places. The one I have is the 3rd Edition published in 1995; by Andrew L. Nemethy with an introduction by Tom Slayton, Editor of VT LIFE magazine. Happy planning, it sounds like you're getting it together!
