Trip to Weston this weekend......

Post: # 2236Post bobbav

Hi everyone - I absolutely love this site! This weekend, my wife and I will be staying in Weston. Last year, we went a week earlier, and the foliage barely started. I have been watching this forum, and hopefully this weekend will be better. Unfortunately, the forecast is calling for rain, just like last year. Seems we can't get lucky. My wife absoutely loves country craft stores. Any suggestions where we may find some in the Rutland area??? Thanks!
Bob

I was down there last Sunday and it looked good. I took the Andover Road that starts just north of the village and the foliage there was very good even with the mist.

Thanks pwt54. Do you think we are late? It's a science trying to gauge it! I'm going to be bumming if it rains again!

You'll find more crafts stores in Woodstock, Chester or Grafton than in Rutland, and they're all easy drives from Weston.

I think there's one south of Rutland in the center of Wallingford on Rt 7, the Stone House.

Foliage around Weston should still be nice this weekend. It will vary by elevation, so you may find brighter color in the valleys and lower hills southwest of Rutland, in the Ira/Middletown Springs area.

Thanks dfpvt! What routes are Woodstock, Chester or Grafton on? We are staying at the Inn at Weston, right next to the Vermont Country Store.

Chester - Rt 11 east of Londonderry
Grafton - Rt 135 south of Chester
Woodstock - Rt 4, take Rt 100 north, right on 4.

Weston-Chester-Grafton is a nice loop if you take 135 southbound, and 121 northbound. The latter hits Rt 11 a few miles east of Londonderry.

Do you mean route 35 ? Be careful of route 121 east of Grafton. They are rebuilding part of it and it may be rough in places. And don't forget the Grafton Cheese Factory on the Townshend Road. If the cheese tasting room is full, walk across the covered bridge and feed the jersey heifers some alfalfa from the field in front of them. It's the 1 foot high leafy plant.

Boy, I sure do envy those who live in Vermont. You are soo lucky! We live on the water in Clinton, however, I keep telling my wife that I definitely want to retire in Vermont! The sad part is I have to wait 30 years!!!!

Yep, Route 35 south from Chester to Grafton, not 135.

If the weather is uncooperative this weekend, Woodstock/Queechee make a good destination. Pretty drive up Route 100 from Weston, a lot of shops, Billings Farm museum is interesting, and you can get a nice lunch at Simon Pearce's in Queechee.
