Fall trip. Need help to fix my routes

Post: # 20920Post photo_guy

Hello,

I have been reading lot of posts, close to my dates and with help of them, I am able to map some rough routes. Please review this and let me know, if you would add or remove or edit any place/route. First night stay can be at Brattleboro and rest 3 nights near Hardwick/Greenboro area, though lodging not booked yet, will do after I get suggestions from you guys.

09/28 - Boston Airport - Chicopee - Brattleboro via 90 and 91. Night stay at Brattleboro
09/29 - [Route-100 day] Leave Brattleboro and Join SR-100 via Higley Hill Rd - Stratton - Grout Pond - Jamaica State Park - Mt. Lincoln - Hardwick ( https://goo.gl/TG9FPG )
09/30 - Hardwick - St. Johnsbury - Bloomfield - Morgan - Lake Seymour - Newport - North Troy - Jay - Montgomery Center - Hazen's Notch - Lowell - Irasburg _ Craftsbury - Hardwick ( https://goo.gl/qr6JVp )
10/01 - Hardwick - Ewell Pond - Harvey Lake - Mosquitoville - Peacham - Noyes Pond - Sugar Hill - Franconia Notch state park - White Mountains - Lancaster - Hardwick ( https://goo.gl/TL5TsL )
10/02 - I have flight from Boston in night, so I will have lot of time from morning. What can I include in this ? Just plain driving till Boston ? Can I pick route from previous day and fill that day from something else ?

Please help me with this.

Thanks

I read map in more details and gone through few old posts. Here is updated route, with reduced distances. As suggested by Carol, I removed Brattleboro part and as suggested by bm, I reversed it.

28-Sep- Boston to North Conway. Nigh stay at Conway [ https://goo.gl/fwbmcV ]

29-Sep- Leave Conway - White Mtns - Bretton Woods - Franconia Notch SP - Sugar Hill - Noyes Pond - Mosquitoville - Harvey Lake - Peacham - Ewell Pond - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/a6f6ad ]

30-Sep- Hardwick - Newport - North Troy - Jay - Montgomery Center - Hazen's Notch - Lowell - Irasburg - Craftsbury - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/U2CCXC ]

01-Oct- Hardwick - Darling SF - Island Pond - The Notch House - May Pond - Barton - Sutton - Lyndonville - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/imN1Uy ]

02-Oct - Leave Hardwick - Lincoln Peak - Killington - Woodstock - Concord - Boston [ https://goo.gl/St9n8W ]

I have two base, first night at Conway and rest 3 nights at Hardwick. When I say Hardwick, it can be Greensboro as well. I have not reserved lodging yet. But this area looks like to be in central. 02-Oct is still a long day drive from Hardwick to Boston, considering that I would like to have some part covered of SR-100.

Please comment or suggest on this.

I revised/edited my last post, since yesterday. Updating it, so it can be visible to destination experts here.
Will wait for feedback.

Your plan looks excellent. Hardwick and/or Greensboro do not have a lot of lodging options. You may want to get something reserved very soon if you haven't already.

I have my lodging booked near Conway (which is still refundable) for first night and rest 3 nights at Hardwick. We are just 3 days far from our travel date. I think, we must be close to be accurate now.

28-Sep- Boston to North Conway. Nigh stay at Conway [ https://goo.gl/fwbmcV ]

29-Sep- Leave Conway - White Mtns - Bretton Woods - Franconia Notch SP - Sugar Hill - Noyes Pond - Mosquitoville - Harvey Lake - Peacham - Ewell Pond - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/a6f6ad ]

30-Sep- Hardwick - Newport - North Troy - Jay - Montgomery Center - Hazen's Notch - Lowell - Irasburg - Craftsbury - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/U2CCXC ]

01-Oct- Hardwick - Darling SF - Island Pond - The Notch House - May Pond - Barton - Sutton - Lyndonville - Hardwick [ https://goo.gl/imN1Uy ]

02-Oct - Leave Hardwick - Lincoln Peak - Killington - Woodstock - Concord - Boston [ https://goo.gl/St9n8W ]

Recently Carol and others have visited few of areas, where I am intending to visit.

Is my 28-Sep stil looking good or I should reach directly to Hardwick/St/Johnbury for first night and keep White Mnts for later date ?

Are my other 3 dates still good or I should wait for 2 more days to pick suggested routes ?

Hi Carol,

I sent you PM, but somehow it is stuck in outbox since long time. Here I am putting it again -
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, cancellation of our flight, car and lodging will also incur around $300 so I think, its good to think on positive side, instead of cry about it.

With still lot of green, we know that 1-Oct 'may be' better than my previous two days (29/30-Sep). Which place would you suggest for that day and may be half-day of 2-Oct ?

And how would suggest for 29 and 30-October ?
---------------------
On a side note, also do you know, if Adirondacks gets color at same time or earlier than NEK ? Elevation-wise, 5343 ft is highest peak in Adirondacks and highest peak in White mountain is 6288 ft., so it looks like White Mountain should be better ?

Thanks

Yes Carol. I am firm that I should come and will follow your routes. Most recently you visited this area, so I am sure, you will have best idea, what places should be followed and where can I photograph good scenery.
I really appreciate your efforts and trust them.

abby wrote:From here, go back and start following your original directions that you mapped out from Sugar Hill. You will be on Rte 302 West. When you get to Bath, turn right onto West Bath Road and stop to photograph the Bath Covered Bridge. Park in the lot and walk down to see the bridge from below.
Return to Rte 302 West and follow Rte 302 t Rte 91 North. Take exit 21. Merge onto Rte 2 West toward Montpelier Danville. Turn right onto Rte 15 East into Hardwick.
Thanks.
From Bath to Hardwick, is it just drive or there are stops, where we need to stop ? If not much, then we will go slow and even if it gets dark after Bath and reach Hardwick in night, it is ok.
I will wait for your further help on other days.

The only downside on your tour is the lodging in the Hardwick/Greensboro area. There isn't much in that area. Stowe, Vt will be your best bet.
Conway, NH might be a problem, also. The Fryeburg Fair will be starting and lodging might be scarce. Your tour itself looks great.

I am able to reserve accomodation on Thursday night in Conway. I am planning to leave early on Friday morning, so I can see some sunrise spots. Hopefully that will save me, from crowd.

I can see lodging availability in Stowe yet and still have option to cancel Hardwick. Initially I thought that St.Johnbury is central location but it was showing all expensive accommodations. In nearby places, I found Hardwick, so booked it there. I will using base only for night stay, otherwise my daytime would be on road only.

How staying in Stowe can help me more ? Please suggest.
