Has anyone used Adobe Photoshop Lightroom? If so how would you rate it for results and ease of use and understanding? Value your opinions...Thanks!

I have Lightroom but I use Photoshop most of the time so I am hardly an expert.

That said, for most photographers, Lightroom will give you the tools you need to do all the post-processing you need. It is also a very program for managing your photos. It was originally created as a way to organize photos. I think it is fairly easy to use. I know that Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop has the same interface as Lightroom and I do most of my post-processing there.

There are a lot of good videos on YouTube. Check them out. I think they will answer your questions better than I can.

I agree with Al. I, too, use Photoshop as my main editor. However, I maintain the most current version of Lightroom and it is my primary image catalog software. It is a great tool for that, and does most of the things a photo editor should. It uses the same raw processing engine as photoshop. If I hadn't made the investment in PS years back, I would probably be using LR exclusively today. It accepts all the cuurently popular plugins like the NIK suite and the onOne photo editing plugins as does PS. also, for those who were not already aware, Photoshop has moved to a fully cloud based software for editions after PS6. Lightroom can currently still be purchased as stand alone software

Thanks to all! I also noticed if I scrolled down the page a bit, there was a disscussion on it back in Jan. 2012, an older version of course. Hoping it will find it's way under my Christmas tree this year. Was looking at lightroom 5 for $79.00, does that sound reasonable?

The Lightroom 5 upgrade sells for $79 at B&H. The upgrade requires that you have a previous version of lightroom. Make sure you don't buy an upgrade version if you don't qualify. The full version is $139 at B&H, $149 at Adobe.

Its also important to realize the the current version of LR is 64bit only!

I use Lightroom for most of my editing but with the Nik add-ons to address the things that Lightroom either doesn't do or doesn't do as well as do those add ons.

I think for most people, Lightroom plus some add-ons plus Elements (if needed) will address all of your needs at 30-50% of the cost of full on Photoshop.

Keep an eye on Amazon closer to Christmas and they will offer a full version (i.e. non-upgrade) of Lightroom for about 40% off. I got the full version a couple of years ago for $80.

I used the Photoshop + Bridge workflow ever since CS2 came out. Lightroom 5 has changed that. Photoshop is now something that only gets into the workflow when I'm doing niche things.

My girlfriend figured out Lightroom 2 in roughly 3 minutes. Just hit the import button and then play with the sliders to figure it out. File importing is the least intuitive part.

Scrolling down thru the topics today I realized I never made a final response here. I did end up buying LR 5 back in Feb. 2014, after a great lead from Al on a sale at B&H photo. I have loved it! It used to be that my husband would spend hours on the computer doing drafting projects, now he complains that it is I hogging all the time working on photos! Thanks for everyone's input!
