bm & pwt54 - I have to decide today

Sorry to be such a pest but I really have to make a final decision today. The issue is Vermont entrance tomorrow:

Still debating...
What drive should I take. My options:

1. I-87 Exit 15 - E.Rupert - Rt 30 - Rt 133 - Rt 4

2. I-87 Exit 7- Rt 7NY - Rt 9VT - Rt 100 - Rt 4.

Where is foliage better? I read reports that Rt 9 and 100 A are really beautiful and peak.

If I take option 1, will I have the same colorful, photogenic foliage as Rt 9 and Rt 100 ?

Thanks a lot

I would do number 2. I-87 Exit 7- Rt 7NY - Rt 9VT - Rt 100 - route 30 west first and then do route 30 west to 315 in Rupert. From there take route 315 west to route 29 in Cambridge NY and then route 29 west to I-87 in Saratoga. There is a Golden Corral restuarant beside Lowe's in Saratoga. It's hard to see, but drive into the Lowe's parking lot and look left.

Option 1 has more scenic spots, colorful foliage and less development. There's a lot of sugar maple as you go over the Taconics from West Rupert to Route 30 (in fact you can cut off on Rupert-Pawlet Rd. as you ascend the hill just after W.Rupert and go through miles of maple.)
Route 7/9 across to Bennington has a lot of unattractive development (I drive it 30-40 times a year)until you get beyond Bennington. From there on, the scenery is great up 9 and 100, but this weekend it's likely to be crowded.

I agree w/ pwt54 after seeing his post. Go the higher route on the way in (9/100) and the lower route on the way out. Foliage is likely to last longer going back via Rupert, etc.

OK. My decision: Option 1.
Thank you very much for helping me with my annual Vermont trip. I will try to enjoy the foliage we missed last year.
