My husband and I are going to be in VT from October 7-10 and wanted to find some areas for picture taking? Were not afraid of walking and hiking. We'd prefer somthing that had some nearby streams or water for some additional pictures.
Thanks for your help.

Hiking is available in all the state parks and the Green Mountain National Forest. Stick to Rte. 100, and you'll drive through a lot of national forest access, and the Ranger Station in Rochester has tons of information. Hope you have a great trip!
Susanne

be careful Vermont is a tourist trap. They told me last year that it was at full peak and all i saw was green. your money is what they want.

WOW......never in my life have i believed VT to be a "tourist trap". I just spent 10 days there and the color is fantastic this year!! Lack of commercialism is one of many things I love in Vermont.

tourist trap ? i don't think so. although weather played spoilt sport on one of my visits this year, i would still call them wonderful trips.
may be one should check out the "current foliage" maps before they go to new england. then you won't be disappointed.

We find that the color can vary a great deal from area to area. Elevation does typically play an important role, but there are peculiarities. We were in Corinth (North Central VT), elevations 1600 to 2000 feet, Oct. 12 & 13. It was warm and sunny and the color spectacular. Mostly sugar maples in that area. Having a Vermont Atlas (detailed map book) to get onto those tiny gravel roads and explore is a big plus.

We just returned to Kansas from a week in Vermont and I must say it was one of our better vacations. The trees were absolutely breathtaking and I loved all the little villages with their church steeples. There was a lot of hot apple cider being served and a variety of antique/craft shows throughout the country side. Vermont is a fantastic state........
