second week of oct weather

Hi,<P>I am planning a foliage trip to Smuggler's notch. I called the resort yesterday and was told they expect the peak during Columbus weekend. However, the <a href="http://www.accuweather.com/adcbin/6to15 ... ">extended whether forcast</a> showed that a cold front will move in Oct 5. How likely is it to be true? Should I plan for next week instead? I will be driving from VA. Do not want to drive all the way to find out that I picked the wrong week.<P>Thanks,<P>Jane

Well,<BR>I never really believe those extended forecasts, they're too far in the future to be certain. We're actually having a little cool spell right now...if it gets cold at that time, it may mean 40s at night and 60s during the day, that's what it's doing now. Smugglers is about the same as us in Quechee this week, but of course if you get to higher elevation, it could be cooler. If you have a choice, I'd get here around the 4th or 5th perhaps...however, I know lots of people coming the week after, and they're not worried. A little chill in the air usually brings out the best color in the leaves...I guess all said, I'd recommend keeping the dates you have. Enjoy! and let me know how it turns out. Susanne

I have to agree with Susanne on this...keep your dates! Foliage is peaking now in Northeastern Vermont.
