We are planning to take our very first fall foliage vacation in Stowe between 27th to 30th of September. Is that indeed the best time to catch the peak in the area or we are too late/too early?
Thanks a lot,
Nick

I think you'll be about right-on, whether you stay in the Stowe area or venture further into the Northeast Kingdom. Smugglers Notch over Rte. 108 from Stowe should be great then, as well as Hazens Notch near Jay Peak and bordering on the NE Kingdom. Also if you go south on Rte. 100 a little ways, you'll be in the Mad River Valley (Waitsfield), a section with excellent year-round views, several gaps to view the foliage, and just a beautiful area, too. If you base in Stowe, you can see this valley, Hazens Notch, and the NE Kingdom, then decide where you want to stay next year from the places you see along the way! Enjoy!
