Budget weekend - Sept 2005

Postby tanua66 » Sun Aug 28, 2005 2:00 pm

My husband and I are planning to drive down to Vermont over Sep 23 weekend and spend a couple of nights there. Being students, we are looking for something budgety but are also hoping to get some great foliage vistas. Any advice on lodging, drives, things to do etc. would be very appreciated.
Thank you!

September 23 is a wee bit early to see "peak" foliage, but in the Northeast Kingdom and it's higher elevations, you should see some color.
Base yourself in St. Johnsbury or Lyndonville and drive north and east from there.
If you can be more specific about your budget, maybe I could give you some ideas about lodging. In the fall it's hard to find budget accommodations!

Thanks for the information. Our budget would be approx. $80 a night on lodging. Is that undoable?

I think it'll be do-able.
In St. Johnsbury check out: Comfort Inn (probably more expensive), Fairbanks Motor Inn, or the Yankee Traveller. In Lyndonville, try the Colonnade Motel. Can't help with B & Bs or Inns, except to say that the Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville is gorgeous, but probably out of your price range. Check it out though, just in case!

The Comfort is too expensive. Yankee Traveler is about right. You can also try the Holiday Motel(not the Inn)and the Lynburke. Foliage season is a special event in Vt., so prices do go up. You could try the Newport/Derby area also.
