Right now the Lake Champlain Valley looks real good. This area is between Burlington and Rutland and west of the Green Mountains. This area is a different climate zone, so it turns later. It should be good this weekend but after that I don't know.

You can reach either Burlington or Rutland in about 4 hours from Boston. There are plenty of rooms in both "cities". Routes 116, 30,and 73 74, 125, and 17 between the Lake and the mountains showed good colors yesterday. The snow geese are in at the Dead Creek Wildlife Area on route 17 about a mile west of route 22A. Route 22A is not a great foliage route, by the way.

My advice is to come up here first thing. Foliage won't be lasting too long now.

Even I am toying with the idea of driving up there this weekend. Not sure I can swing it though. --c

North Hero House on North Hero Island in L. Champlain might be a good place to stay next weekend. Google them up for details. About 45 minutes from Burlington.

Some bays on the L. Champlain islands will have migrating birds (and hunters, VT's duck hunting season re-opens Saturday.)

Consider driving down the New York side of Champlain to get to the snow geese, crossing at the Crown Point Bridge, where it's worth stopping.
