I went to Groton State Park on rt 232 on Oct 5, I was disapointed. So many leaves on the ground. I did Owls Head and all the water bodies except for Ricker Pond. Boulder Beach is a beautiful area but the wind has taken a toll on the leaves.

That seems to be the story right now. What had been beautiful last weekend has been affected by 3 days of strong winds. I've been talking to a few regulars at the rest area and they that the areas they drive through every day looked great last weekend and were now full of bare trees. There is still good color but a lot of bare trees. These areas tend to turn earlier than surrounding areas, however.

How sad, another one that was high on my list is crossed off.

You can cross it off as a destination, but I would still use it as a part of a "loop' or a cross over from Route 2 and route 302.

I spent a bit of time in Groton SF yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. The trick is to be creative. There is still lots of foliage -- it is just not all on the trees. ;)

Go up to Kettle Pond and park in the parking lot. Then start walking on the trail around the pond, on the right side. You don't have to go far and you will be in a "wonderland" -- big mossy rocks, lush ferns and TONS of red and yellow leaves, some on the trees and many on the ground. It was really nice, actually. Wish I could upload a pic right now. --c

That's why I like that area as a photographer. I don't try to shot a wide area. It's a tree or a small group look for textures, color contrast, or structures. A moose wouldn't hurt either unless it chased me up a tree.
