I'm just curious on what your top 10 list of places to see, or favorite routes would be.

Not in any preference order. That is too hard! When I am in Vermont, I just automatically think of Number 1!

Some of my favorites are:
*Woodstock and vicinity
*Peacham-Barnet area
*East Warren Road Valley, Waitsfield
*Weston Village
*Grafton
*Plymouth Notch
*Kelly Stand Road
*Roxbury Gap Road
*Inn at the Round Barn
*All of Rt. 100 and Interstates 91 and 89

I think this kind of thread will help a lot of people out. Does PWT54 have an answer or anyone else?

Thanks to all,

Dave

This is really a great thread. More people have their top 10?

Hi, PWT,
You mentioned snow geese would be in mid Oct. Will there be foliage that time? I am coming this weekend, but if it has spetecular foliage and snow geese next weekend, I will go to VT again.

That's not a great foliage area. Lots of open country and the trees are far away. The geese should be there now but they may be way back in a farmer's field. When the food runs out they move closer to the road. This weekend will be a gamble to where they will be but next weekend they should be near the fence.

Don't forget your umbrella in case a big flock flys over.

Thanks, PWT. I saw snow geese early this year in PA. Theer were 25000 there at that time. Right now I am looking for photo opportunity of flying snow geese with flaming foliage. I did see such image in a movie called "winged migration".

PWT,
Few questions on your top 10.
1. Rt 12 is so long. Which part is your favorite and which part will be the peak this weekend.

2. RT 30 is so down south. Will I see paeks there?

3. Why not Rt 100 on your list? It seems many great places mentioned on this forum is along RT 100. Mansfield, Waterbury, Waitsfield, Granville Gulf SP, Hancock, Killington.

4. Will I see peak on MT Mansfield this weekend or it is already past the peak?

Thanks,

Kai

Hi, BM,
Thank you very much for the help along the way.

Few questions on your top 10 for you (and other people who know the area)
> 1. Peacham/Barnet/Danville area-most beautiful
> part of the state IMO.

Will the peak still there this weekend? I'd love to go to Peacham pond and Grofton State Forest.

>4. Mt. Philo State Park - Hike or drive to the >top for spectacular views.
Just don't want to miss this one since both you and PWT recommended it. However, since it is on high elevation. Peaks at this weekend?

>5. The view of Bristol and Mt. Abraham from North >Street in New Haven.
I think I will check this out. What is the best time of the day to view it? I don't want to be against the Sun, that would cause a big shadow.

> 8. Lake Willoughby
Heard many people mentioned it on this forum. Peaks will be gone this weekend?

> 9. Gondola ride up Mt. Mansfield
Past peak this weekend?
Can't find Gondola ride on m y map. Directions?

>10.Drive over Kelly Stand Road (gotta throw SoVT >in here somewhere!).
Too eraly for this weekend?

Many thanks,

Kai

I like both routes 12 and 30 because the variety on these route. I don’t have real favorite area of route 12, but I Like the area around Townshend the best on route 30. Peak on route 12 will be below Montpelier to about route 65. Route 30 starts in Middlebury. Colors should be starting about now. I do like route 100, but that area between Morrisville and Warren is busy. I think the problem is I use route 100 so much. Mt. Mansfield will be past peak especially with the wind we’ve had the last 3 days.
