Best for mid October?

I am driving up to see the colors in VT before heading back home to enjoy the colors in the Great Smokies. My only time available is Oct 13-16. I know some areas will be past peak, but realistically, where can we go to see good color? We'll be in Burlington and would like to drive over and do the scenic train out of Bellows Falls. Good ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Peak foliage will be around Bellows Falls at that time. Nice train ride. Love that area around Knoxville to Ashville, NC.

Would love to hear of good places to go, eat, etc. in the Burlington area. I'm traveling with my wife and two small children. (trying to teach them to enjoy car travel and seeing the sights along the way). Any suggestions would be very welcome.

There ar so many good places to eat it would take a small book. But if I had 2 small children I take them to the Teddy Bear Factory in Shelburne, just south of Burlington. And wander around the waterfront area in Burlington and the Echo Science Center there.
