October 4, 2023: Most hillsides in the state are now a mosaic of colors, having various shades of reds, yellows, oranges and greens present. Many locations throughout the state are reporting peak or near-peak foliage especially at higher elevations. Areas over 1,300 feet in the Northeast Kingdom are currently at peak color. The Green Mountains and their foothills are rapidly approaching peak this week. Even in southern Vermont, high elevations in Windham, Bennington, and Rutland counties are at near-peak color, with a variety of reds and yellows dominating the landscape.

The pleasant weather lately has made for beautiful touring and viewing. In areas with lots of green, we can expect peak in the next week or so. There is no shortage of great foliage to look at no matter where you are right now.

Best bets:
Northern areas – the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, Route 2 through Danville, Victory Bog, peaks in the Northeast Kingdom, including Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor, and Route 100 between Stowe and Morrisville, as well as the Green Mountain Scenic Byway.
Central Vermont – Allis State Park, Route 12A between Randolph and Northfield.
Southern areas – Route 9 between Brattleboro and Wilmington, including the 100-Mile View of Hogback Mountain, the Molly Stark Scenic Byway, and Routes 30 and 133 in southwestern VT.
