For this time of year I like to set up along Route US 2. Peak foliage will be near there. Touring a little north and south of Route US 2 will reveal the best colors. There are some campgrounds along or near to route US 2. I give you the name, then closing date and telephone number and a comment. Sugar Ridge, Danville, 10/31, 802-684-2550, great place may be full. Meadowcrest, Marshfield, 10/15, 802-426-3514, close to road. Onion River, Marshfield,11/30, 802-426-3232 good one. Groton Forest Road CG, Marshfield, 10/15, 802-426-4122, off route 232 long drive and quiet. Moose river, St.Johnsbury, 10/17, 802-748-4334, close to road. There 2 up in Concord but they may be too far north of peak foliage later in the week. I’ll list them just in case. Rustic Haven, 10/15, 802-695-9933, and Breezy Meadows, 10/11, 802-695-9949. There are 2 in the Montpelier area, Green Valley, 11/1, 802-223-6217, close to rt.US 2 and Lazy Lion, 11/1, 802-479-2823, off Middle Road in Barre,Vt. Also there is the Gold Brook CG on route 100 in Stowe, all year, 802-253-7683. I’d drive the area north of route US 2 first and the south next. Check my Route 14 and More Eastcentral Vermont post for some ideas.
