Best Route

Post: # 1589Post HuntJJ

I am looking for some advice on the best travel route from Kennebunkport, ME to Stowe, VT on Wednesday, October 6. We know it is a lot of driving for the day but we hope to find a scenic route.

Any help for best route, approx times, must see, and must eats would be greatly appreciated.

Also, we have left Fri. 10/08 and Sat 10/09 open to be flexible in finding the best fall colors, we fly out of Boston on Sunday. Any suggestions for Fri. and Sat.?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks BM,

I've looked at the routes, sounds great. How do you think our timing will be for the fall foilage colors. Any suggestions for must sees or eat stops?

Thanks Again

Colors will be fading in Stowe at that time so I'd head south. Best colors should around route US 4 or a little south. Concentrate on southeastern or southwestern Vermont. Both of BM's routes work well to get to Stowe, BUT if you don't have a room reserver in Stowe, I'd head for the Route US 4 corridor and try to find a room along there to be closer to the best foliage.

The second route using route 112 is the more scenic of the two. You will still have color, by the way. It will be mostly yellows. Tell ya what. When you are ready for supper in Stowe, go the Shed on route 108 for some great food and their microbrewed beer. Things will look better.

Thanks again PWT. Yellow will work. We have two days in Stowe. Do you think on Fri and Sat we should head toward Meredith, NH or toward SW VT? It would be nice to see some reds.
