Today was the opening of Grouse Season in Vermont, so took the dogs out to one of our favorite spots in Victory. The first image was taken on Victory Road which is off of Route 114 just a bit north of East Burke (they were having their Fall festival today). As a bonus, A little further up the road from this shot we encountered a young bull moose standing on the side of the road.
Jumped into the woods before I could grab the camera. Colors were very nice all along Victory Road, but I still think they are a few days away from peak.

Shots of the dogs are in Victory state forest and taken with my cell phone. We did flush six grouse, but too many leaves still in the trees to be able to get a shot off. Still a great time. The dogs were in heaven!

Mr. Bumps: these photos make my heart sing! I love your dogs! They look so excited!

Do you think the color will be ok in the Victory Bog area Thursday or Friday morning? I want to take my friend there, he's never been, and who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and see a moose too! Have you been up Radar Road at all? I'm curious as to the road conditions. Not talking about heading to the radar site but that road had nice foliage when I went with Phil (pwt) a few years ago. I want to take that bog road to Kirby Road, just wondering about the foliage for next week too.

I was at the Burke Fall Festival today and it was gorgeous! We three foliage sistahs had a grand time and we were going to take the lift ride up Burke but it started to drizzle so we headed to Jobs Pond instead.

Thanks for the adorable shots of your pooches! CT

I have not been up the Radar Road, so can't comment on that. I think the color should be OK Thurs/Friday in Victory. Some of the reds may be past, but it seems like the yellows are just getting started. Looks like a lot of rain forecast for next Tues/Weds, so hopefully that doesn't knock a lot of leaves of the trees.

Dogs were super excited. The small brown/white guy broke his leg last August and basically missed the the entire hunting season recovering. He is the big hunter of the two. For every mile I cover, he must cover two, and always moving fast. It's what he lives for! LOL

Thanks for your reply. Glad your dogs were in their element! They probably sensed your excitement and performed accordingly! I had two springers once and they loved the hunt. Glad you enjoy your sport, everyone has a passion and when it is with animals, all the better for bonding. I'm looking forward to my riding events in the next two weeks. I remember you mentioned something about showing in the Tunbridge Fair? I hope to go one year. I missed all the equestrian events in Dorset this summer, so put that on my bucket list for VT summer activities! CT
