looking for the best color

I am staying in Shaftsbury from9-29 to 10-1, how far am I going to have to go to see peak colors. Also, my father is a professional photographer from Texas and he will be with me, and he is so exited about seeing the foliage for the first time. Where can we see some spectacular scenes. We are willing to travel north but obviously would want to minimize our travel time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh dear. The peak foliage is way up in Northeastern Vermont right now. However, route 100 being in the higher elevations turns earlier. My advice is to get onto route 100 and head north. There will be early color in the south and very near peak as you get to Waitsfield.
