Report from Killington, Route 4, 100 south of 4, 91 and the NEK

Postby mmvt » Tue Oct 02, 2018 8:31 am

The past 2 days have included a wide range of places we have visited/driven through - here is a brief report:
Killington region: very nice early color throughout and changing daily. River Road is especially lovely and some of route 100 just north of Killington shows great color. The ponds are showing nice color and should be peaking within the week or so.

Route 100 and 100A south of 4: early color throughout - some nice color on 100 A but it's early - guessing it will be very nice over the weekend.

Route 4 from Killington to 89: some pockets of early color but still a lot of green. this seems typical

91 north: lots of different areas- some very green, some colorful - definitely lots more color as one drives north. Peacham area (from the highway) looks like it's getting nice and hope to check this out tomorrow.

Burke Mountain to Island Pond to Canadian Border:: BEAUTIFUL color in the NEK area. 114 north to Island Pond is beautiful - nearing peak with bright, deep and varied colors.... 114 north out of Island Pond is stunning! There was NO RAIN in that area yesterday so the leaves were still all on the trees. The Canadian border area was pretty boring in comparison with the areas south to Island Pond. The forest area south of 105 is just beautiful - we were lost in that area for a few hours!

The NEK is definitely the place to be right now and should be beautiful for the next week especially if the rain/winds stay away.

Thanks Carol!!
Today was VERY rainy in the Killington region and Ludlow, Rutland too. The colors here continue to progress nicely and very little leaf drop! Okemo mountain is looking nice - Chittenden area looks early but promising. Surprisingly, even Rutland has some beginning color.

MM: Did you keep gps coordinates, or can you find your way back to the spot where you were "lost"? Looks like a great area to "find" again :)
Andy

If it sounds too good to be true, its probably . . . .
