OCTOBER 5, 2017

The foliage progression continues to remain with near-peak to full color change throughout northeastern Vermont and along the spine of the Green Mountains from north to south. Beautiful colors are also emerging in the higher elevations of southern and central Vermont, as well as blossoming in central Vermont valleys.

There remain large volumes of healthy green leaves that still could turn colors after a few chilly nights, and Vermont remains optimistic that its typically vibrant fall colors will unveil themselves in the days ahead. The southern and central parts of the state, along with the Champlain Valley, should present the best areas for foliage viewing in the days ahead.

Best Bets (North to South):
– US Route 2 east from Montpelier through Plainfield, turning onto route 215 north through Cabot to Walden.

– Follow Vermont Route 17 west through Buels Gore, from Irasville to Bristol.

– Vermont Route 7 north from Brandon through Leicester to Middlebury.

– Molly Stark Byway from Wilmington through Searsburg and Woodford, to Bennington
