Mom, Mike and I did a trip to Peacham VT and Bath and Surgar Hill, NH and back home by way of Littleton, NH and Danville, VT
We took route 15 from Johnson east to South Walden. From there we took a side road to Cabot. We took the Danville Hill Road from Cabot to route US 2 and then the Mack Mountain Road to Peacham. The colors look a little better than last week. Not eye popping, but nice. We drove from Peacham down to route 302 in Groton and then east to the P&H Truck Stop for lunch.
We then drove route 302 east to Bath, NH to check out the Country Store and covered Bridge. Then we continued route 302 east to route 117 and drove that through Sugar Hill. Foliage was not good from Wells River, VT to route 117. But once you drive up into the hills it looked better. Still not eye popping. Polly's Pancake Parlor was still busy at 2:30 pm. Then we headed for home. We had a wonderful time even without great foliage.
One thing I noticed as I was driving was that the foliage looked better if I was driving into the sun. In the morning I was driving southeast most of the time. The sun was ahead of me. Looking ahead or a little bit to the side I could see the colors better. Looking back was dull. Keep that in mind when you leaf-peeping.
